#CSPRO vs CS:S

Hi - First Post :D

I know there hasn't been much talk about it on these forums yet, but I think it would be nice to discuss the proposed CSPro mod. For anyone who hasn't heard about this yet, this is a mod that a small group of people are trying to develop who are trying to make a version of CS for league play that is more like CS 1.6 and less like CS:S.

Some articles discussing the CSPro mod:
http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/features/1084/
http://www.gotfrag.com/cs/features/1080/2/

The second article is some of the proposed goals that they want to make in the creation of the pro mod and the first article is more of the criticisms of the pro mod. Anyone who has played counter strike before, especially the league players, know that the shift from 1.6 CS to CS:S is a drastic one. Many people just complain about an FPS drop while many others complain about "clutter" like cans and barrels. Obviously there are many other things that veteran CS league players don't like about CS:S. My question is though, is it really possible to make this happen? Will this mod gain the support it needs to develop correctly or will #CSPro (irc.gamesurge.net) be dead soon? Or maybe... just maybe... Valve will come through for the competitive community and actually listen to their suggestions?

Sorry if this is an obscure topic, but it might be nice to read about something other than 'why do I get choke! What should my rates be?!'

I think it will die, if not now, later. why? Because not many new people will want to play a toned downed version of their game, also they will probaly be used to CS:S by the time they hear about it.

I seem to recall that CS players hated 1.6 when it came out. Now they hate CS:S, they will get used to it.

I remember those days... as of now I'm indifferent to it. I am, however, more hopeful that valve can just fix some of the major problems and listen to the community more than I'm hopeing that these modders will be able to produce a playable mod. It's just so much easier that way. Everyone on my team hates CS:S, but I don't mind it at all. Actually, I think it's more fun because it seems a lot easier.

^^agree with Dulrough

I'm an old CS player, although afte college I turned to the Unreal engine and Tactical Ops. I don't know what the last version of CS was that I played but Iremember everytime there was a new version, the community hated it untill a even newer version was released. Happens every where.Ipersonally don't see much wrong with CS:S. Yes there are some FPS issues due to its high quality textures and its pyshics engine. But agood video card and a high end pc take care of that. theoriginal CS is what 5 years old? Time to move on.

Then again, what do I know.

I think VALVe has to put much on their plate right now, just give them time, and CS:S or the Source engine for that matter won't be as bad as it is now. For one, I am frequently having problems with lag (it's been narrowed down to the game) and the bumping when you come in contact with objects with online source games (CS: Source, HL2DM) is terrible.

I'm hoping all this will be fixed, VALVe just has alot to do right now and they can't please everybody at once, so give it time and see what you think of CS: Source a few months from now if you don't like it right now.

CAL also announced today that CAL-I 1.6 will be turned into CS:S-I after the end of Season 14... so assuming people don't want to play a game that 'pros' don't... everyone is going to follow the lead of the CAL-I teams and move into source for good. 1.6 will die in league play afterwards... so if CSPro even has a chance... they need to have the mod finished and polished of well before league play of CS:S starts seriously (season 15) if they have any hopes of the mod replacing CS:S.

I think that CS:Source still needs a lot of work but I don't think a bunch of modders can fix it for competitive play faster than Valve can. We just need to wait a little for a few good updates.
