CSS Is Extremly Ugly

piranesi is by far the ugliest map in it so that's not really fair

i hope they do upgrade it though

no ammount of aa is going to save you from block brushes - plain detail textures noob displacment mapping and seeing THAT SAME DAMN TREE IN EVERY HL2/CSS MAP
 
if my server wasnt down Id post a comparison to my maxed out setting.

Dont blame Valve for your sht graphics card.

yknow, i was going to bitch about your post, but that screen actually looks shitty. i almost mistook it for condition zero. judging from that single screenshot, dust had a much better upgrade.

and you're right. cs source does not use the engine to its fullest extent. that's what cs2 is for.(
 
lol it's about geometry not rendering, gfx card doesn't come into it

To be honest all i see in that pic is lack of gfx settings enabled. This isn't farcry ppl its an online game:p
 
You dont see the blocky brushes? The poorly done displacement? The lack of displacement on the grass? The bland hill texture?

Cheata i do see wut ur saying about the lack of grass. Really isn't that big of deal to me, wut bothers me is no diff models!
 
Its the worst map of the CS:S. It also lacks objects for some reason too. If you look at my thread of CS:S Office pics you won't be dissappointed. This game looks great.

What im referring too is the grass by the tree. The source engine is capable of whats called displacement mapping - essentially an easy way to make bumps in the terrain. (you can see it on the hill in the distance albeit poorly done) As you can see the grass by the tree is utterly flat whereas it could easily be bumpy and realistic.
 
I'm going to have to agree, from the screens I've seen, CS:S looks awful.

Yep, just saw those office shots, those looked nice.
 
wow okay, what is cs:s ugly compared to? it's cs, not unreal 3.0. for something that's gotta have lots of players AND physics and still be playable with low lag... maps don't look half bad... i think they're hot actually. someone needs to make a bink or something. maps are hot hot hot.

Office, aztec and dust are the only good (graphically) maps.

The other are shit.

Doom 3? Painkiller? MoH:pA? HL2? V:TMBL? It looks like crap compared to most modern games, including HL2..

C'mon...valve knows we don't have PIIIs and shitty hardware - why are they dumping down the graphics?

Some maps look like shit (havana, piranesi) while other looks good (office, dust, aztec). Valve has done a half-assed lazy developer job, they should have been consistent.
 
Havana is the worst of the bunch... can't believe they screwed that map up...
 
Most of the maps look rushed IMO, but we might see a bunch of updates in the near future.. I'm happy as long as I'm able to play more maps :)

Since when has CS been about the graphics?? I always brought it up in the "do graphics matter that much" arguments with my mates.

It soon shut them up. Sure they're not the best, but they're functional at the least, and in my opinion they're pretty decent. Stop winging and enjoy the damn game :D
 
I'm actually starting to belive this is the best the engine is capable of.

I don't understand why you would be happy that you have to wait for an update to get the quality you thought you were supposed to get?

This is one of the reasons why I am not giving my money to valve just yet.

counterstrike isn't about the graphics. counterstrike: source is. those somewhat half-assed maps are disappointing, especially considering how good dust/office/aztek look.
 
well the one thing that dissapointed me about the engine when i pld the stolen build was the geometry issues. You still cant create good curved surfaces its all angles just like in the HL engine.

I expected this with cs:s so im not dissapointed but i imagine to some its a shock and expect the flames to be worse when HL2 comes out.

Then you should watch the HL2 binks. You cant argue with those.
 
Same issues are present in hl2 mate. But w/e i expected that and im in for the story and gameplay, not the graphics.

(count how many times you see the tree :sleep:)
