"SIGGRAPH 2007 was the stage where Microsoft dropped the bomb, informing gamers that the currently available DirectX 10 hardware will not support the upcoming DirectX 10.1 in Vista SP1. In essence, all current DX10 hardware is now obsolete. But don't get too upset just yet: 'Gamers shouldn't fret too much - 10.1 adds virtually nothing that they will care about and, more to the point, adds almost nothing that developers are likely to care about. The spec revision basically makes a number of things that are optional in DX10 compulsory under the new standard - such as 32-bit floating point filtering, as opposed to the 16-bit current. 4xAA is a compulsory standard to support in 10.1, whereas graphics vendors can pick and choose their anti-aliasing support currently. We suspect that the spec is likely to be ill-received. Not only does it require brand new hardware, immediately creating a minuscule sub-set of DX10 owners, but it also requires Vista SP1, and also requires developer implementation.'"

why the hell would they do that?

Yup. That's why I haven't bought Vista or a DX10 card yet.

Most retarded business move of the year? It's definitely a runner-up...

It's like they WANT PC gaming to die.

umm technically hardware is not obsolete until the new hardware actually uses the technology lol so thats bs they are talking about.

Its just people making a big dead about nothing. If you was to turn around and say Cyrsis will be using DX11 along with all other games and you DX10 card won't be able to run it then yes I would agree. But honestly this is nothing.

I'm very happy with my 8800 and have been for some time. It runs any game I want smoothly and will run anygame I want smoothly in the future. Even if that game does suport DX10.1 and my card doesn't. It will still run on DX10.

Hmm? I thought that the HD2000 series supported dx10.1? That's always been listed in specifications of the thing.

Meh, I'm happy with my 8800. Tbh, I don't mind if I have to run something in DX10 instead of DX10.1.

i dun get it. why are we so concerned about games that are not even out yet? just play the good games that are already out. i will be happy with my future 8600 gt next week and play games like HL2, stalker and NFS Carbon....geez...

What's the point in developing games for DX 10.1 if absolutely no one has it and it does nothing new from 10?

Cancel your order before you get it and get the 8800 GTS Trust me, its like double the power for an extra ?40 or $80 I made the same mistake myself and had to send mine back.

The 8800gts 320mb is around $280-$300 from what I've seen (at least for US pricing). If it's out of your price range I would look at an x1950xt, unless you're planning on hooking it up to a HDTV I don't see any reason to buy a current generation "midrange/mainstream" (if you want to call these cards that) over a last generation high end card.

they want to KILL PC GAMING!!! arghh.. so that microsofts stupid xbox360 which does not even support mouse or keyboard can win..

You have no idea what your talking about do you? Hell the majority of PC users still have and will have for some time DX9 cards. Then you have the likes of ID who use OpenGL a spec which doesn't change so often.

why are you people saying your glad you haven't made the switch yet??? this will happen with any new hardware ;there will always be something new.

Jump the gun? the card's been out for almost a year.
And there's been numerous sales which were tempting but overall I didn't see it as being worth it. Considering benchmarks with the x1950 which is half the price and not too far off in performance of the caliber I'm looking for. What I'm really waiting for is benchmarks with UT3, which is what I want to run flawlessly.
