Current WIP

Some HL1 engine screenshots would be nice, if you can get it to compile...

I'll give it a go over the weekend.

very nice, whats is the inside like? is there an inside? or is it just that little garage at the bottem

I'm still working on the inside on a floor-by-floor basis. The ground floor is indeed a garage area, but there's floors for infantry accomodation, command & control, etc

It's virtually a self-contained base.

make sure you don't put any windows in it, if you have detailed outside and inside areas, it may be too much for source to handle (LOD only applies to models and other effects, not BSP geometry)

Yeah, I know that. Any windowed rooms will be cleverly blocked from being able to see all the way inside the building.

i have to say that is some very nice bsp work, really reminds me of Halo

With the absence of an engine to compile it in, I made it in Hammer and exported it into 3D Studio and rendered it. Just a sample....

looks good, but you don´t need 3d Studio to render it -- get only the "Torque" Engine to get that tower in a game...

i cant understand how to make a tower with alot of things on it with hammer.... i can like just do a room and things like that not a thing that isnt a cube :/ how u do?

with you 3 best friedns,,, Mr.Clip Tool, Mr.Vertex Manipulation,, and Mr.Func_wall (for all non-visblocking detail brushes

What are the proportions on the cliff texture you are using? It looks like it's being resampled by the engine or something :/

It would be interesting if you retextured the tower thingy to give it a more interesting look. It seems like you planned to do so judging from the bottom part, but then you got lazy or something and left it there :D

WIP = Work In Progress.

Oh, I must have overlooked the disclaimer saying I can only praise it since it's work in progress.

Oooo....sarcasm!

The texturing is nothing like complete. I had to throw some textures at it to make it look nice for the render. Inside of Hammer, where I made it, the texturing is sublime :)

Hahaha, touché :)

What are the dimensions on the rocktexture though?

And have you done a .bsp compile yet?

The rock texture is 512x512 - the UV map needs rescaling though.

I did a BSP compile a while ago. It works fine in HL, but I can't use it for a map because of it's size.

pi the url doesnt work for me if possibel could you rehost the image? I would like to check it out, i know i'm late to the ballgame, heh. Been working on some 3dsm layouts for future hl2 maps myself, heh.

Any chance? Relink meh!

lot of work gone into that, it looks good :) Will you be modeling lots of actual props to stick onto it, like pipes and so on for little bits of detail, aswell as inside obviously?

Looking forward to a virtual tour animation of it :D

That's the idea, yes. The landing pads are going to be suspended by (working) shock absorbers, for example.

I can't really do a great deal more on it now until HL2 is out.

You could do some of the detailing in a 3D program, getting the bits built and textured and working out where best to put them, rendering as you go to see how things are looking.

Then save those out as wavefront .obj format so they keep their UV's then whatever format is required it should be one of the better formats to convert to the right one, then I imagine its just a case of putting them back in their new format in the right places in hammer once HL2 is out. So in the meantime you could do those, save yourself a lot of time later on when if your like everyone else, you'll either just want to play HL2 or do the fun bits of modding (I just know that'll happen to me ;))

You could work on some foliage, it would look pretty neat with plants and tree's around its base

I'm making the props in 3D Studio, and I know there's some stuff I can do, but I'm working on some other stuff in the meantime :)

I'll start this in earnest when HL2 is (finally) released.

nice looks good pi

what ive been doing to hold me over is doing some concept map design layouts in 3dsm

than working on the 'props' to detail the layouts. Hehe im just worried how hl2 will handle polycounts

cant wait till it gets released so i can slice up these mesh's and toss them in the editor and see how it handles them

venice italy, kyoto japan, colony on mars etc etc hehe

A big, vertical shaft at the moment :)

I've made a couple of floors for it - armoury, barracks, control room etc. layout is nice and simple - elevator in one corner, stairwell in the other. Should work pretty well.

I remember the days when i used to make towers and stuff....;(

No all i do is make land scapes, its fun but i dont seem to be able to sit down and do anything else any more.

I actually took a brak from modelling etc and made a CS map. It's quite refreshing, actually.
