I'm making a street map.. the first thing I am doing... are the curbs... The street turns in two places... I need the curbs to turn with a the street.. how do I do that? What tool would I use? And where could I find tutorials on the tool - or the specific thing I'm talking about?

I couldnt follow the rounded corners tutorial for beans... Any other links?

You could make a cylinder then cut it twice along the middle which will leave 4 quarters. Use 1 of those quarters for the curve. Make it a detail brush so it doesn't feck up the bsp.

You would have to make the radius the same as the width of your path.

Maybe not the best way to do it, but tell me if you need any pictures.

Use the arch tool. The most underestimated tool in the universe.

I've always used clipping to get those done... it's sooo much more annoying trying to align the textures when you use the arch or cylinder tool because in addition to getting it done right on the piece itself you have to make sure it fits with the other sidewalks.

Ugh.

I tend to make one cylinder of the outer radius, one cylinder for the inner radius and one cube. I then move the vertexes of the cube so they line up with one 'face' of the inner cylinder and teh respective face of teh outer cylinder. Duplicate cube and repeat adjustments for the next face and so on.

I miss patches from Quake3 games and Doom3, oh those buggers made curves fun and easy.

Arch tool makes quick work out of something like this. Play with it.
If you do, try:
Hammer: Tools (menu) > Options (menu item) > General (tab) > Uncheck 'Stretch arches and toruses to fit original bounding rectangle'
very helpful for piecing together multiple arches.

Edit: Yeah, I tried to make one. Texturing them is a real pain-in-the-ass.

I have been using the arch tool to death and its awsome !!!
Make your kerb then "Select" the curve...
Select ( ungroup ) You may now texture each brush individually if you wish.....The group again...

Its a real doddle to master with great results :)

no need to ungroup... just select the faces you want to texture when the texture pane is open. Ctrl-click to add to your selection.

kerb. lol. a kurved kerb, maybe? you uk'ers are funny.

You got the spelling wrong it was the English that invented the road and thats how it was spelt.
Like driving on the Left hand side of the road...Goes back to the old days on horses and your right hand would be on your sword ready for passers by on the opposite side...Again old english :burp:

How were we to know Columbus was left handed and not a good speller :)
