Cycles of periodic highs and lows of intelligence

it's proven that peoples' intelligence(s) fluctuate based on various (too many to even count) factors. You actually become more dumb and more intelligent all the time. In fact, after reading this post you are probably slightly dumber or more intelligent - and not just in the sarcastic metaphorical sense.

Could be. It's very dry material. It's knowledge I want to know, but it's definitely not page turner stuff.

But even when I did read fictional books I'd still have the same problem, and I don't think I was bored. I do think my mind wanders though, but not due to boredom.

Maybe I get the same thing when I hit a word I don't know in a paper, rather than stopping and thinking about it I automatically keep reading but nothing really sinks in. Some times I have to read whole journal articles two or three times to put all the information together. I'm not sure it's about intelligence as even the "smartest" people I know have to read everything a few times while the professors can skim it and understand the whole thing. It's more about experience, well in this case anyway.

Well, it has been proven that intelligence can change (or the displaying of it), depending on the correct diagnosis and treatment for various medical and psychiatric illnesses. This does not occur all the time, but substantial "gains" have been reported.
