Is there a significant difference in image quality between these two outputs?

I'm asking because I'm looking for a monitor to plug into my laptop, to use it instead of/together with its 15,6 inch screen and I found a relatively cheap 22 inch LG monitor (w2234S), which however does not have DVI, only D-SUB.

The short answer is it wont make a huge difference. But I have seen issues on higher resolutions with blurry text and other problems. These were usually fixable by doing a calibration.

How much are you finding this monitor for? Today tiger direct posted a deal for a 25" monitor for $199 with free shipping.

It's around 170$. Unfortunately 24'' monitors are a 300$+ expense here and all the US shops with sweet hardware deals don't ship overseas.

Oh shit, I forgot you're the Polak. Yeah, that sucks man. I got family over there and they get shitty deals on any kind of electronics.

Wait... D-SUB?

Isn't that the same as VGA?

D-sub is a connector type, technically here we are talking about d-sub 15. In many applications (pc monitors in this case) it is used to carry a VGA signal. So the signal is VGA but the connector is d-sub 15.

Does DVI carry VGA signal too? I'm confused. When I google VGA I just see those blue so-called dsub connectors.

From what I understand D-SUB connection carries an analog signal and DVI carries a digital signal.

VGA is a blanket term now a days. Kind of like when people make a copy they say xerox that for me, or when they want a tissue they say hand me a kleenex

I don't know the exact technical details, I'm sure wikipedia would be helpful there but these days VGA refers to an analog signal whereas DVI is a digital signal (although there are exceptions to this, DVI can also carry a analog signal, Im speaking in general terms).

It won't be as sharp since it is converted from Digital (PC) to Analog (over the connection) and back to digital (in the LCD). But I'm guessing since you are looking at value deals it won't matter much to ya. Plus a bigger screen is an improvement over the laptop's.

VGA vs DVI on PCs is similar to Component vs HDMI for TVs.

I am looking at value deals, however I still want to have a good image. Obviously I want to be able to read text off the monitor easily. I also retouch my photos, so don't want them blurry or anything.

Would it be better to buy a 20'' at a similar price, but with DVI? The signal would then go out through the HDMI port in my laptop, through a HDMI<->DVI cable.

EDIT: Also, I assume I'm getting the image on a laptop display through a digital signal?
