I have Satellite dsl I know it’s better then 56k but is it ok at mp gameing? I am pissed I cant get dsl where I live………..but do you think I can still play all the hl2 mp mods? I really never lag but my ping is like 9999 so whaty do you think?

Satellite anything will take at least 1,000 ping. Why? The speed of light. It isn't instant. It has to go up into space and back. Satellite can haul alot of data just not to quickly. It takes around 1 - 2 seconds. Any usage of sending data into space and having it come back to earth via Satellite at the speed of light or slower is simply a bad idea for gaming.
A 56k will serve you better. I play Cs:S on a 56k, and do rather good... No one ever complains(as long as you sustain a true 56k connection, like 170 - 240 ping).
Im soo close to getting dsl where I live. Yet it's not around here.. All I can hope is that there isn't a dl limit...else im screwed ^_^. Trust me, I dl alot per month... do not let my 56k fool you. I mean 300 - 600 megs is a good amount on the average file size I dl. I've gotton use to it, just to think what I would be dling with high speed.... Bigger and more... If I don't dl.. I think I'll die!!! Oo a porno movie *Rushs out to dl it*

chu, I recommend not having any *real* internet hoggers on. Instant messengers are ok.
I recommend a U.S. Robotics 3Com Modem. Internal and External ones both provide true 56k connections.
Also always check the servers ping, try n get ones that are between 180-250. Sometimes the ones below 180 will actually lag in game for some reason, dun ask me.
Whats your ISP?
I know I use a local one, DoorPI there very nice ^_^. I get disconnects..maybe once every 24 hours? So it's all good.
For downloaders i recommend DAP, no it wont improve your connection(do they ever?) just has schedule timing, scheduled stopping, reconnection, pause\resume, etc.. Actually anything with those features is good nuf.
But yeah 56k is a bit underrated. You can play games and still do good, it wont look choppy or anything. It looks rather smooth, onless you get a lag spike but thats rare for me.
Yes I would perfer DSL or Cable, but hey we can't have everything.
