Meh, Alyx is fine this way, she looks a bit constipated in these pics, but in others she's still nice. At least she's one of the few female game characters that look realistic and believable, she's not there to just show her gigantic boobs and wiggle her ass.

Its no different then judging the attractiveness of someone in a painting.. and its only going to make more sense and gfx levels increase and the line between real and simulated gets blurred.

She's not ugly, she's more real. In the earlier versions of the game she looked like a damn supermodel.

Somehow I doubt you'd find that in an oppressive 1984-ish setting.

Look at a third world country ad sometime and tell me that women are flawless with extremely large bosoms and perfectly symmetrical facial features. Or look at the ranks of the military, or even the police. Sometimes there is an individual female who can be deemed beautiful, but mostly the hardened lives they lead leave diminish physical features.

Alyx should look like Michelle Rodriguez. One tough chick who is "hardened", yet conveys a beauty through her toughness.

well if her good looks have been toned down i'm all for it.

I paint based on model reference 2x a week in my artschool. And 'll tell ya women without their make up will look like Alyx. We are too used to seeing pictures of supermodels that have been airbrushed/photoshopped to remove cellulitis, wrinkles, blemishes, skin discolorations, a few pounds, and change height.

as an art student i get to use nude women as reference fairly often in my painting classes. They are never perfect like in the glamour pictures. Glamour pictures are selling an ideal and that pretty much it. I'm glad valve went this way.
