I would just like to say, everyone who has too much free time should head over to fileplanet to download the I love bees DVD. its perfectly legal and it is the best story i have ever heard that has been created for a game. and in this post i am going to try and convince you to download the 2GB DVD. note: dont get it from the ILB website, they are just highlights that you must patch together... the DVD is the full story.

Anyway. the story is broken down into a dozen chapters. each of these contains 5 seperate stories... Jan, the daughter of a special forces officer who is more important than she imagines... kamal, a doctor trainee who is also a hacker, but he is haunted from when his little sister mysteriously died years ago. Jersey is just an innocent (if not slightly annoying) citizen, but when a rouge AI crashes in his hard drive his life is turned upside down. There is also herzog... a military leader who knows too much, and rani- a recently recruited spy who is being dragged into a huge conspiracy.

For most of the recordings, you dont have to know anything about halo. in fact, you could think halo is the shittest pile of console crap in the world, but still be possesed into enjoying this without even hearing the word "covenant" for ages. but i GARANTEE you, by the time you have listened to it all, you will be wanting to buy an Xbox simply to blast the covenant out of the sky. this is not something you casually listen to in bed- despite having no visual pictures, it drags you into the story and involes you in the plot. if you are the type of person who loves to think about a plot and really get involved, you will LOVE this.

the characters start off completely iscolated from each other... but as the story progresses, you will gradually begin to pick up clues that they are somehow connected. needless to say they are all pawns in a huge plot... and you wont be satisfied until you have listened to every moment. this is NOT a world where purple aliens run around getting killed by a guy dressed in green battle armour, this is earth in the future. This is not a light story just to entice people into buying halo2, it is a form of entertainment in itself. you could listen to it without even knowing what halo is, and you wouldnt miss out on anything. All the characters have dark secrets that even they dont know... something that may have just been a passing comment at the beginning, may turn out to be one of the most important things for earths survival. someone you thought was irrelevant may turn out to be closer than you think.. needless to say, this is FULL of twists and turns.

I love bees (you'll find out the relavence of that name later ;) ) is the prequel to halo 2. so needless to say, the covenatnt have not invaded yet. but there are some very powerful moments... i sat up in my bed and stared at the wall when someone burst in on a conversation and screamed that coral, a nearby planet, had been eradicated by the covenant. a planet that i had heard about so long had just been eradicated in the blink of an eye... and that was the moment it dawned on me, and it is also the moment that the characters start to figure things out. these arent the aliens we fought in halo1, where we could practically stomp on them with our feet and they ran home screaming. these are savage, brutal, merciless killers... and theyre coming for earth.

truly the best part was right at the end, when most of the events have passed. (note: there arent many spoilers here.. it wont spoil the plot, but you might not want to read it).

the main story is over, and the characters are returning home. as ever, the final chapter is set our with us listening to each of the characters in turn. first is Jan. after she has said her goodbyes, she leaves for home. she is dropped off at the airport and has a chat with someone. just as she is leaving, booming noises that sound just like World war two siens wail. there is silence. all you can here is the sirens. then someone says... "theyre here. the covenant. theyre finally... here."
Next is kamal, after his scene, the same sirens wail. "look, up in the sky... those lights... theyre fighters. oh.... god...."
then rani. then jersey. all the same reaction. all over the world, the same sirens are wailing. the same confused comotion speads across earth. the covenant are here.

then it ends.

it is now up to the master chief. everything lies on him. Jan, kamal, jersey... they are all reliying on a man that they have never seen or heard of to save the world. and he is coming...

before i saw halo2 as a good game. i bought an Xbox just to play it. i loved the origonal and i will love this. but i love bees has given me a new reason to play it... a new reason to kick some covenant ass. now when i rush into battle, i'll be screaming at the covenant for destroying the city i learned so much about. the planet i learned so much about. the characters i have fell in love with are no longer here... just remenants of the past. dear god i hope jan kicked your butt. this is for her...

download ILB. its only 2GB. thats a tiny amount to download seeing as its 6 hours of brilliant storytelling. whatever book youre reading right now, put it down and listen to this instead. i havent heard a story so good for a very long time.

go go.

Its a real shame Halo 2 was nothing like it though.

Halo 2 is a great game, the only thing I'm disappointed with is that the game twists that suddenly, you don't fight much on Earth itself. It'd be more fun if a major part of the game was set there as a grand battle thing.

ILB is by far one of the best stories I've ever heard told, regardless of the Halo games' existance. The voice acting is sheer brilliance, and I've fallen in love with the voice of Sophia, who also does the commercial for Nintendo DS ("Touch the bottom rectangle," etc.).

If they included the ILB story into Halo 2 - even just subtle hints here and there - it would have blown my mind, but they didn't. Damn shame.

I think I bought Halo 2 mostly for XBOX Live.

really? i thought they might give little hints tawards it, like someone brefly mentions one of the characters, kinda like they mention the master cheif in ILB. oh well ;(

but anyway, i completely agree with you there- the story is excellent.
