Which, oddly enough, happens all the time.

Such as?

We have gay marriage
Stem Cell

.....what else?

If the majority of the people disagree with your opinion and it's against the nation's law, then move somewhere else. Please.

Really, you are so convinced that a Godless/Religionless society will create some utopia, then please move to a place that better suits your beliefs.

Your idea to weed out religion is Totalitarian. The right to believe is the most basic and fundamental freedom each person believes. No one can take that away and it should never be attempted. I cannot believe how extreme you are being.

It's the side effects of 'believing' I believe are holding back a lot of progress (church vs gov't). I'm not too canny on the subject, perhaps stiggy or someone else will fill it in...

I'm just tired of laws against people or groups doing certain activities because of religious groups getting all bent out of shape. Gay couples should be able to marry, that's the bottom line. It's bullshit that they're not able to because a devotion deems it wrong. What is it harming? Nothing. Same thing with stem cell research. What the **** is it hurting? Nothing. In fact, stem cell research is something that would indefinitely help society.

No, most of them are not extremists, that's just what the 6 o clock news shows you.

When you consider that in tiny little Britain alone over half of the muslim population (which was around 8% in 2005 I think) want islamic law (cutting of limbs, islam to be intergrated into goverment, etc.) These people are coming from the middle east (and too a lesser extent, those in eastern europe). Have you ever been to Iran? Have you ever been to Afganhistan? My brother jioned the army about 15 years ago to pay off his student loan. The aformentioned countries are populated with fundamentalists, and thats the majority of the muslim population. Islam is a warrior religion in the 21st, were it just can't work.

No, it'd be totalitarian if I wanted it to be illegal to hold these beliefs. That's both impossible and ridiculous.

What I want is for people to be able to live their lives without running up against either socially-prominent religious views, or government-mandated religious laws. Gay marriage, and simply being gay, can get you murdered in a lot of places in the world (the US and Canada are no exception). Euthanasia and abortion are considered murder by a huge number of people (most of whom are religious). The only real obstacle to stem cell research is religious institutions and the religious beliefs of those in power. Speaking out against Islam can get you beheaded.

I'd really like for all this to not be the case.

Furthermore, it doesn't matter how many things I think religion affects negatively. The fact that religion causes even one bad thing to happen is reason enough to begin to question it. The fact that it causes lots of bad things to happen is why I don't shrug it off.

What it boils down to is that I want people to not impose their religious beliefs upon anyone and keep it to themselves. Unfortunately, in a democratic society this is impossible. The solution is to try and show people that religion is dangerous and unnecessary.

Religion is retarded, and all those who do subscribe to it are equally retarded for believing such cock-fest ideas and fantasies. I wouldn't outlaw it though, who then is there to mock and ridicule?

Oh, locked.
