Dark Conflict, aka: Tribute to Darkness, was to be a mod that recreated the Multiplayer portion of Perfect Dark, as well as tweaking it for improvement, and adding in new content to expand on the original formula.

Whilst no solid content was ever released to the public, and no website was established, I can assure you the project was extremely well organized and had begun development.

The point of this is we've canned it.

It was not canceled due to an untalented team, poor leadership, poor communication, or poor planning, so cast those reason's aside. Actually, the team is still together.

The mod was cancelled for a couple of main reason's, one of which is very obvious.
1) The risk in having our work cancelled by Rare and/or Microsoft was deemed ultimately not worth the time and effort that would be put into the work we create.
2) The amount of creative input that can be put into a remake, no matter how much it is tweaked, is very limiting, and the team ultimately felt it would rather do an original piece of work.

So, in turn, I cancel this mod, but also say the team remains intact and work has begun on a more original and creative mod.

Jarrod,
Team Lead.

So easily canned :p
It's better this way. I bet they end up coming up with something really cool now. They can do what they want now rather than limit themselves.

Your right, I was told, but we didnt listen. We were never closed down, but we felt it was the right thing to do. At least development didnt go overly far.

Anyway, I'll provide some details on what we have lined up. Keep in mind this are likely to change, it doesnt have a title, and this is pretty brief details. There are -plenty- of details, and a truckload of designs, but its either:
A) Not ready to be released.
or B) Undergoing a few changes.

--------------------------------------------
Over the last millennium the population explosion has caused cities to expand, consuming most of the Earth's continents into thriving urban landscape. Whilst this was happening, deep scientific discovery led to a revolution of unbelievably high technology, including the development of the Atmospheric Processor.
A processor was set up on The Moon, and after over 100 years the Moons soil and atmosphere was almost identical to that of Earth's, leading to the growth of beautiful plains, lush forests, sparkling waters, and a massive high-class city.
Mars in turn was given an Atmospheric Processor, but one third of its way through the cycle it malfunctioned, causing abnormal weather storms and harsh environments.
Flick to now, 3050. Earth is under no strong political ruling, instead a world of chaos and anarchy ruled over by the strongest gangs and terrorist. Mars is a shattered wasteland used only for dockings and housing those that seek isolation, yet strange materials and technology is produced. The Moon is under intense political rule, with outsiders believing it to be the perfect Utopia, unaware to the treachery and danger on the surface.

The player will experience the major events of this age through the eyes of three main characters, a murderous Earth gang man, an isolated Mars assassin, and a immoral Moon soldier. Each character will experience the varied locations of each planet, and combat them with their unique style of play. Each character also will have their own goal and story, seeing the effects of the other characters on the way.

Features:
- Three different planetary environments.
- Three different character styles of play (Solo, Stealth, and Team Play).
- Low Gravity combat.
- Multiple level paths.
- Multiplayer.

See, already coming up with good idea's :):):)

This one sounds much more interesting than Perfect Dark ever did.

Yep, I sort of wanted for us to move to something original all along - though I think that Jarrod (er, EatChildren)'s idea right now is way too ambitious, I'm with him on it, so we'll see what we end up with

Hey, thats a good idea, and also I support your decision on canceling the mod.

I like your new idea, it sounds very fun. Just a question though, it it possible to travel from the three diffrent worlds, like through some from or spaceship or other device?

Each character will visit all three planets through story progression. Progression to each planet may be done by spaceship, or something else. However, during this time the player will not have control over the aircraft, so there won’t be any "Flying in Space".

A method we may go about is hopping onto the shit, screen fading out, then fading back in when on the next planet and declaring it a new chapter.

Sinse WHEN has this forum had no "edit post" button?

You might want to know that according to scientists, it's impossible for the moon to support an atmosphere, due to the fact that it lacks enough gravity to hold on to it.

Cool idea though.

Trust us, we know how unbelievably unrealistic this story is in all forms, but it gives us a nice environment :).

And some more details:
--------------------------------------------
Locations:
Earth: Furious and fast action style, set in more closed in areas, with enemies all over the place. Urban setting, with civilians caught up in many firefights.

Moon: Open field combat for most part, with more nature settings to battle in. Some indoor/city fights (still quite open). The city has gravity generators keeping it close to that of Earth's, but outside the gravity remains that of the Moon's, allowing for open terrain low-gravity combat.

Mars: Guerrilla/Survival style combat in extreme harsh conditions. Some levels will require the player to not only fight against enemies, but avoid horrible weather (eg: Acid Rain Storms).
--------------------------------------------
Characters:
Goretext (Earth): A brutal murder and villain, and member of the vicious Doomfriend gang. Goretext's gameplay will be about solo one-man combat, a walking tank.

Marc Garret (Moon): Part of a brutal 'Search & Destroy' military squad designed to ignore all moral dilemmas. Marc's gameplay will focus on team based combat.

Michelle (Mars): Silent and isolated, Michelle is trained to survive on the harsh conditions of Mars, and to survive its lifestyle. Her gameplay will focus on stealth, solo, silent playing.
--------------------------------------------
In the end you'll have three different styles of player gameplay, and each character will visit each planet as well, giving each character three different gameplay environments. This total's to nine different gameplay experiences.

Since five minutes after you posted, it disappears.

Well you learn something new every day :p.

On another note, we're looking for Concept Artists to help bring these worlds alive. A proper "announcement" regarding open positions and more details (eg: story) isnt far away.
