Dave Chappell-lost it?

I've heard some rumors going around that Dave Chappell was in mental institution and than left to South Africa?

Do you guys know what's up with Dave?

the reason why i post in in Political forum is because i've heard it's somehow has to do with his views on the network and racism issue in america,
maybe i'm wrong
 
No, he denied those rumors. He just got too much pressure and left everything behind to go on a 'spiritual retreat' in south africa. It's a damn shame; I was dying to see the 3rd season.

i think he said after 2005 the show is going to stop, but they have the material for the 3rd season (scetches) but not the introductions

i think dif. some of the shit on his show is just plane dumb, but stand up was really funny, he actually made me laugh out loud, which i don't usually do watching tv

His stand up sucks, there were a couple things I laughed at, but the rest was just plain dumb.

No it's (prolly?) because he doesn't think it's funny, I don't relate but I think he's hillarious.

in one of this early shows he mensioned that if he does 1 hour stand up for comedy central he is going to talk about the war and Bush, but strangely enough he didn't say a words about it (maybe he did, i was baked)

Ohh, so his stand up is only funny if you are high? Well **** that.
 
I wouldn't be surprised if he lost it. My uncle in law, after doing all sorts of drugs for years and years including acid, marijuana, cocaine... you name it... has completely lost it. He doesn't remember who anyone is anymore outside of his immediate family. Its weird, its like talking to an empty shell :-(
 
its funny when you are sober too..what I like the most about chappelle is that he shows how ignorant everyone is in alot of his comedy..he doesn't pick on any race/culture in a one sided manner..

and Raziaar, about your uncle,I don't think it was the weed that caused those problems,I have been smoking weed for close to 2 decades,and as far as myself and those around me can tell I am still fairly sane..it was most likely the LSD and cocaine..

those 2 drugs, especially in abusive amounts can cause LOTS of mental issues..seen many people through the years lose it from the powders and rocks..not as many from LSD but it does happen

I didn't blame any one particular drug. I said he used all sorts of them and they messed him up in his later life. Sad really.
 
All I heard was that the filming of his show wasn't going the way he wanted so he buggered off somewhere.

Basically, he had just enough clout in the business to throw a half-hearted pitch for a show he only had the vaguest idea how to make, so he could get himself and his freinds a job for a few months. He had 0 expectations for it, and didnt even think they would go for it. SO now he has a show, has a few ideas and basically bullshits his way through the rest, just dumping in whatever he and his freinds thought was funny, and the network didnt even care at that point, and didnt have any high expectations for it. Low and behold, the show is a huge success and blows up.

So he goes from 0 pressure, 0 expecations, 0 interference from the network/execs, him and his freinds doin' whatever the f* they want to fill a half hour not givin a damn what they are gonna do for next weeks show, or even havin shit to fill next weeks show. Suddenly, he has major pressure from the network to preform and the execs are breathin down his neck, he needs to present ideas and show them content and this and that, whereas before, they barely cared what he was doing as long as they had 1/2 hour of shit that got passed the censors. Now his show is absolutely EXPECTED to be as funny and successful as the previous 2 seasons for 5 or 6 years! Now he is expected to keep up that momentum and keep high ratings to keep ad revenues up for the network to justify paying him 50 mil+.

Thats major mind****, really. Especially in Hollywood
