Yes. I realize that a similar thread has already been posted about this topic awhile back. But I want to post a new thread concerning and questioning this Dawn of the Dead mod for Half-Life 2.

I am really, really excited about this upcoming Dawn of the Dead mod. I own and have seen the 1979 version of Dawn of the Dead probably close to 40 times, all the way through. It is one of my favorite movies of all-time and is considered, in my book, a cult-classic. The new Dawn of the Dead, 2004, was also very well done as a re-imagining of the original.

Now, I have recently discovered that a mod of the 1978 version will be coming! I do not know much about modding and how mods are done or accessed. That is why I have created a list of questions that I would like to have answered.

My questions:

When will the Dawn of the Dead mod arrive? Is it true to say that this mod will be available after Half-Life 2?
Will the Dawn of the Dead mod be accessed by downloading the mod off of the internet or bought retail?
Will the Dawn of the Dead mod require any monthly fees, or will it be available for free? Or will there an up-front cost?
How long has this mod been under development? I don't know, but, has the development not even started because the game hasn't even been released yet?
Will there be any multi-play incorporated with the mod?
Will there be drivable vehicles in this mod?
What are the system requirements for this mod? Are they the same, or similar to Half-Life 2?
Approximately, how long will this experience last? Will it take as long as Half-Life 2 to complete?
Will there a Dawn of the Dead (2004) mod coming?

And if there is any other information about this mod that you would like to post, I would be delighted if you do so. Examples: screenshots, breaking news/info, etc.

I think I know as much as there is to know about this mod considering I have read extensively and thoroughly about it here. Even though not much is available. A lot of 'Coming Soon' I see.

Hmmm, I can't answer your questions. But this would proberly have been best if you emailed the team its self.

If I had to comment I would say "Dawn of the Dead is a great film, but will never make a great game. If you changed the whole concept of the film then yes. But its not a good film because of the action, which most games use as a source of fun."

I suppose so.
I will do just that.

Forget Dawn of the Dead, someone came up with a decent zombie gameidea

who is that cool guy?

DOTD is not a cool mod... claims to be the only zombie mod... but...

www.nomoreroominhell.com

THAT mod has been around for more then a year

team on DOTD: one guy

team on NMRIH : lots of guys

Yep definately, and it will probably be a while after too, maybe 4-5 months, before beta testing begins due to the complexity of the contiuous level system and figuring out how to adapt the engine to handle it.

Will the Dawn of the Dead mod be accessed by downloading the mod off of the internet or bought retail?
This game will be free to download, either from the site or off steam if all goes well. I dont intend to make any money off this title.

free - see above

How long has this mod been under development? I don't know, but, has the development not even started because the game hasn't even been released yet?

Well i'd say the plans were drawn up pretty much after watching the E3-2003 vids from last year. I was originally planning the mod for far cry or Doom3 (both also unreleased) but when i realised the potential of HL2's engine, things were changed.

Since then I have had plenty to be working on since the game was announced. Over the past year I've been producing a library of models textures and sounds which will be used in the game and currently have over 250 assets ready to start integrating into the mod when the SDK is released. I currently work full-time so whenever I have some free time im working on the mod and the website. so to answer your question, yes development has most definately started! :)

Will there be any multi-play incorporated with the mod?
Well yes, hopefully if I can find a good coder to join the team! I may have a bash at it myself, but as my skills dont really lie in this area im not too hopefull of achieving it by myself. For more details go here: http://www.littlelostpoly.co.uk/dotdgpconcepts.htm and see the "Game play – Multiplayer" section of the document.

Will there be drivable vehicles in this mod?
Definately, yes, many! again see the above link for more info

What are the system requirements for this mod? Are they the same, or similar to Half-Life 2?
I think they will end up being quite a bit higher than HL2's, but at this time its very difficult to pin down a set of min specs.

Approximately, how long will this experience last? Will it take as long as Half-Life 2 to complete?
Depends, I may make it time-based, meaning that certain objectives in the game/level have to be completed in a certain timeframe before the raiders will come to cause havok, however I quite like the idea of the user being able to explore the level/missions/objectives at there own pace. See above link for more info.

Will there a Dawn of the Dead (2004) mod coming?
Dont ask me! its not my mod :P

anyway enough of the This zombie mod is gonna be better than your mod comments! Im not trying to compete with anyone else's mod or try to live up to anyone else's expextations. I just want to create something which is true to the original film as possible and try to make it as fun and original as possible. Its only a fan mod, and although im only one man, dont think I am incapable of making this happen.

Even if it takes me a year, I will finish this mod and u will all be able to play it :)

Thank you

Rob Briscoe

Thank you very much brisk1. It's looking really good. I hope this mod turns out to be a huge success. I can't wait! :) ;)

*So you're saying that you are the only person working on this particular mod? Don't you have a development team?

I have a few guys, but some are AWOL and wont be added to the team, I actually have one guy from EA games who wants to help and spinkitten who you might know from the forums helping me on sound and music as wella s many other DOTD fans from other sites.

I would love to help. Problem is, I don't know jack-shit about modding. :(

lol thats the age old problem, load of people who want to help but dont know how lol -- thats how most of these 'mod' teams are made these days, and i think thats why most mods dont take off.
I can pretty much do everything other than coding -- which is the only area that I really need help in, but thats a way off yet!
