Dawn of the dead

They've taken it as far as it can go. I mean there's only so much you can do with a zombie/zombification
Nobody's ever really done a zombie apocalypse yet. :D

Also, I had a cool idea which was it was the late fifties and basically what happened was that when we colonised Africa in the early years, crazy voodoo people sent zombie armies against us, which we captured and used as slaves. So instead of black people working the plantations etc it was zombies, and it'd be about a journalist investigating the beating to death of a zombie by four human police officers amidst the chaos of a zombie civil rights movement.

I prefer the remake over the original. I found the original to be boring half way through and it just felt they were dragging it along to make a longer film to me.

I really liked the start of the remake, seeing all of the chaos happen and seeing how quickly it spread was awesome.

I don't think George A. Romero's movies are that great to be honest. I think night is the best of them all and they got worse for me as they went on. Like Stern said Return of the living dead is one of the better ones out of the older movies, just simple zombies.

I like all of the newer films except Land of the Dead. Shaun of the Dead is just an awesome comedy, seen it so many times :D

"You've got red on you..."

I like horror movies that are psychologically scary like The Sixth Sense. The pure gore-fest movies are sickening for me. I watched the remake once. I don't need to see that shit. Then I was tricked into watching Hostel. :( Wtf.

oh wait, I thought the original black-and-white one was called dawn of the dead...I guess that was night of the living dead. In that case the original was fantastic, I mean I couldn't beleive how good it was in spite of being extremley old and in black and white. I haven't seen any of the others though.

The ...of the Dead series are mandatory films for people to have seen. Go watch Dawn and Day. :D

Neather of those movies are gory in my opinion. The Japs have the hardcore shit. Hostel was suppose to be this Gore fest but it was a porn film with 1 mild gore scene. Dawn of the Dead was just mild gore all around, i can eat while watching both movies np. If you want Gore and i mean real Gore look to banned movies or Japanese/Korean movies.

Versus is worth a watch if you like your zombie movies with some kick ass action.

Heheh, Versus is a mental film. Mental, but awesome. That pretty much sums up a lot of Japanese films, though.

there's just a few hours difference between the two

Or 28 days. ;)

Seriously, I've not seen a film that was set in the middle of the breakdown of society as opposed to directly after it. Both Dawn of the Deads touched in it but were still essentially stories of isolated survivor groups. Who's examined the characters before it kicked off? Who's taken us through from initial 'rioting' to martial law and total chaos? As far as I know, nobody, and if someone has do direct me to the film in question. :O

well return of the dead's ending could be seen as a start of what you're describing ...but usually mutants/zombies are the after effects of the apocolypse ..usually dont see them till after ..unless you mean those Left Behind christians ..they definately have a zombie-like quality about them

On the subject of these 'Return of...' films, I saw the second one a while back (Revenge of...), and I know they're supposed to be horror comedies, but the zombies were dancing to what appeared to be a mix of funk and rap music. What the hell? It was perhaps the cheesiest and most cringe/suicide-inducing thing I'd ever seen. Tell me the original wasn't like this.

heh I get confused as to which one is which ..sure it wasnt a michael jackson video? ;)

the internets tells me it was directed by some guy named Pupi Avati (hehe poopie)

In The Return of the Living Dead, do they kill all the zombies by bringing them all into a power station and electrocuting them all? It's just that I remember seeing that funny zombie that says "Brains" in it. Must re-watch that.

Didn't they imply nuking the town? Or was that the second one?

I'll admit, for some reason, I was actually scared to watch Return of the Living Dead. Probably the only movie where zombies actually look scary.

Return of the living dead is created by John Russo, the zombie himself in Night of the living dead. It is actually half-funny and half-scary. Combine together you have a dark comedy zombie movie.

A zombie (Russo) creates zombies? Heh.
