Day 2 Sniper Update: Payload Race + 2 Arena Maps

Day two of the Sniper update and we will see a new game mode Gladiatorial Cart Combat where both teams must guide their own cart up hill to a finish point. The map is called Pipeline, and apparently if you stop pushing for a second it rolls back down to the bottom of the hill again.[br]

Just saw this when I went there to see the Bow update. Awesome.

This looks pretty cool. You have to divide the team between pushing your cart and stopping the enemy pushing theirs. If you look at the screenshot, there's only 1 checkpoint for the two tracks at the top of the hill, so the map is probably symmetrical with another hill on the opposite side.
But it's a triangular "?" checkpoint, which seems kinda odd.

Also: Sentries are going to be a real bitch in this map.
 
its a shame the Sniper is my least favorite character. i kinda suck at waiting in the back

I was thinking about this as well. I guess you'll have to use an offensive engineer strategy and build between spawn and the track, or make ninja level 1's. This map looks really fun though. Are there potential stalemates if time runs out? Sudden death?

Actually there's no part of "Gladiatorial cart combat" that I don't like. Awesome idea. Valve has a good track record when it comes to new game modes.

I can imagine two snipers riding on each cart firing at each other.

No lol, I mean hectic-engie-nest camping ahead of the cart.
 
I live how Valve is getting this game into a new level of game-play improvements

I have never been that bothered by Arena mode, but these new maps look fantastic, at least visually. I may have to break the habit of a lifetime and play them.

If I'm not too busy playing Pipeline! :E

Yep, as we always have done for each class pack. Threads are generated as a result of us putting up front page articles so we are certainly going to announce each update.

Exactly, I was always puzzled by that. They showed us then didn't add it to one of the days, probably to keep us guessing. One difference is this version is certainly a day map...

They seem to be getting less and less subtle about the whole secret spy war theme. Makes me think of villain decay for some reason.

Oh yeah, because it's Valve. I want these maps, all 3 of them. Now.

EDIT: And Glenn, the earlier version of that map shown doesn't include the Pipeline/Factory at the top of the hill and has alot more sand and ground that the new one, making it look more industrial.
 
Any idea if the carts will move in the same direction alongside each other, or from opposite directions to the same point?
 
From the shots I'd say same direction. Not necessarily alongside each other the whole time though.

If you look at the carts in the Bonk pic above it looks like they move in opposite directions.

If you look you can see that there are two ramps of differing colors, and it looks kind of like the blue cart is halfway up the ramp.
 
Info on next unlock is out. Continues with the tribal theme. It's an tribal shield with a car battery wired to it. Electrocutes Spies who try to backstab you.

If you have to put away your sniper/bow to equip it it sounds useless. If you don't it seems like Spies are going to have a much harder time with dealing with Snipers using this, and everyone else a much easier time, seeing as you'll have no tommy gun and will run slower. Of course, it does break so you'll only be protected against the one Spy (return to resupply to get it back? Recharge time?).
 
I get the feeling that we're going to see Snipers using this + the rifle or the bow + the tommy gun. Mostly the former.
