There is a rumor going around that it's going to be a dual Sniper-Spy update, which makes sense and would be awesome. Or it could be a well executed hoax by some on the steam forums.

Edit: Okay I'm ready to call that this will be a double Sniper-Spy update

Kotaku's page on the update has the Spy cloaking which they would have grabbed from the official site.
If you look at the dead Spy the Revolver looks different and there is something gold in his hand.
Plus Valve have mentioned the possibility of a double update before for the classes that ruin the game when spammed.

Dude, this is EXACTLY what people were saying about the Scout update, Valve isn't going to do something like that.

I think I'll stick with the SMG, just much more versatile and useful, but hey, on the plus side it will help alleviate the paranoia of some snipers.

Been a while since a genuinely useful unlock was announced.

A general melee-shield seems pretty ridiculous, to be honest. People would just run up behind and shoot them point-blank instead.

And hey, if it does end up being Darkside's idea, then it sounds like it would bypass the shield alltogether.

It's...it's useful. Really useful. In fact this may be, hands down, the most useful unlock in TF2. This is one of those, "Forget whatever you had in that slot previously; you're going to always want to have this" items.

Thing is, although that picture is real because people made this theory with the Scout update, it's possible Valve are just playing with us again. We're so easy to play after all!

I didn't notice the yellow thing in the spies hand though yesterday. I have no idea what it could be, but in TFC the spy could feint death, and I've always hoped they'd reimplement an unlock to support that.

Without a doubt there is a coin or something in the Spies hand. This isn't to say that it will be the Spy and Sniper update but there is defiantly something there. Maybe a hint to say there will be a "Meet the Spy" video with this update. The whole thing about the Spy randomly appearing behind the sniper in the update just seems like something Valve would do to mess with people’s heads. Even though it’s not likely, it’s more plausible that if they were to release the Spy with someone that it would be the Sniper (and not the Scout like so many people thought)
Thinking about it, they are giving the Sniper a weapon which is purely designed to stop Spies from backstabbing them so to a certain degree it would make sense to update both of ‘em at the same time. Guess we will know in the next few days...

The revolver does look a tad browner than normal, but I would put a bet on there being a Spy update just yet.

I see what people say about the gun being "lighter" (e.g. almost gold) but on closer inspection it is the exact same model so unless Valve are getting really lazy with their weapon models or this picture has just overdone the lighting. Saying that I could be completely wrong and it could be a different gun just doesn't look like it to me.

To me it looks like the barrel could be thinner and of more uniform thickmess than the regular revolver, but the angle makes it rather hard to tell.

I think the gold thing in the Spy's hand is just a cigarette lighter.

Who in TF2 is going to be distracted by a thrown coin... That would just be like the Spy holding a sign saying "Here I am".
More likly the feign death idea to be fair if anything.

My theory (far fetched but I'll tell you anyway), is that it emits an electric pulse (like a defibrillator) which allows spies to stop their heart momentarily, and ragdoll the ground (and wears off after a few seconds). I don't I have a single chance of it being that, but I can dream.

Perhaps in his hand is a hologram projector of some sort? Feign death, project a hologram that may have the ability to count as the first back stab against the sniper? Could explain that picture of the spy behind the sniper. Notice he has no lower half?

Pretty useless feign death if the enemy can see you're playing dead by checking if you've got something in your hand.
