The following press release has recently been sent by Doug Lombardi, always the bearer of good news:
Day of Defeat: Source (DoD: Source), the latest version of the WWII online action game from Valve®, will be made available to gamers everywhere on September 26.[br]"Day of Defeat has quietly been one of the most played online action games for the past three years," said Gabe Newell, president and founder of Valve. "Day of Defeat: Source represents a major leap forward in both graphics and gameplay, and pushes the Source engine harder than any other Source project."[br]DoD: Source takes the classic teamplay of DoD and expands the experience with Source, the engine technology Valve created for Half-Life® 2 and it's next generation of games. With this technology, DoD: Source offers state of the art graphics with optimized versions of popular maps and all new player, weapon and world models, plus support for HDR lighting.[br]DoD: Source leverages the power of the Source engine by introducing advanced sound technology to provide a more immersive soundscape and integrated physics simulation technology for ragdolls and physically simulated objects throughout each map.[br]Available via Steam for just $19.95 and in the Counter-Strike: Source retail package, DoD: Source is a rebuild from the ground up of Day of Defeat on the Source engine.[br]DoD: Source will be available for pre-load and pre-order next week. Those who purchased the Half-Life 2 Silver or Gold Steam offers will receive a request to pre-load the game at this time and will receive access to play the moment the game is made available.[br]For more information, visit www.steampowered.com[br]Valve, Day of Defeat and Source are trademarks or registered trademarks of Valve Corporation in the United States and/or other countries.
So, there you have it. After many many months of waiting it's finally coming. Currently I'm trying to get some screenshots out of Valve to get you even more excited, so watch this space. Though I'm quietly disappointed Valve still haven't released anything on September 30th, this is still great news.[br]UPDATE: The ever generous Doug Lombardi has just sent me this great screenshot from the game:[br]

A release date! Oh my god!

/me dances

Unleash the fury Mitch, unleash the FURY!!!!

I think I need a new pair of panties. :-x

Nice, can't wait for this :)

$19.95 eh? That works out to 10 pounds, 85p.

On a semi-related note - Can someone tell me why my keyboard is buggered since I reinstalled XP? :( The pound sign is a #, the # sign is a |, the @ sign is a " plus a few other annoying buggers. I've set language options to English (United Kingdom) yet it's still fecked. ;(

Edit - nevermind I got it, snooped around control panel.

so i wonder when they'll delay it to?

Don't say that- up until now VALVe's schedule for DoD:S was "when it's done, which is soon". Now it's actually done... so we have a release date. Making comments like that is not only patronising tawards VALVe, but it's completely unjustified.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

No wait.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

That's all completely true, but his comment was still funny ^_^

QFT.

It's time those damn bastards stop complaining about Valve.

I <3 you Valve! :naughty:

I was hoping for September 30 for overused jokes all over again, but this will work too. :)

YAY!!!!!!!! HOORAY. NOW When is Lost Coast. It is supposed to be out before DOD:S maybe next week?

Actually, I've had confirmation from Doug that The Lost Coast will be after DoD: Source.

You're meeting with him at St. James park, feeding the ducks, aren't you?

So the HDL files will be downloaded by DOD:S and not LC. Anyone knows if there will be bots in the first release or later?

Probably none in the first release, but no one's actually spoken about that yet so I'm not sure.

Grey Fox, as you can see from the screenshot, it isn't just a port. Also you would be getting it for free if you've bought any of the eligible HL2 packages.

So they are going to charge 20,- for a port.

No, but you're trying to find something to complain about I can see.

MUAHAHAHA! I only had to pay (realistically) $10 for it! MUAHAHAHA!

SWEEEEET! Can't wait. :D

I can't see from the screenshot or any information released that is more then a port. And cerainly not a port worth 20,-

In short No, but you two are just trying to be asses.

Aww, regretting not shelling out for atleast the silver package? It was crazy obvious it'd be worth it in the long run.

*glee*

Yap grayfox can see NOTHING different. Ecspecially in the doug lombardi interview recently that showed even a different type of gameplay. Theres different ambiet sound, you can deploy MGs anywhere, and a few weapon addons. That silly port.

I forgive you valve for the wait.

A big thanks valve! Nice work!

I'm so glad I payed for Silver :) This alone justifies the purchase!

Yeah, looks exactly the same to me.

Yes but by that logic you might as well say css is not a port.

I guess, but to me thats just to little to justify not calling it a port, and for paying 20,-
