Day of Defeat®: Source Available September 26

Yes but by that logic you might as well say css is not a port.

I guess, but to me thats just to little to justify not calling it a port, and for paying 20,-

Well I don't know what you expected. The whole point in the BLAH:Source games is redoing the games in source to take advantage of the engine (graphics and physics wise), and maybe add a fancy feature or two. If they were gonna drastically change the gameplay they wouldn't call it Day of Defeat, (or just DoD2 :p).

Wow now I finally understand why I bought the Silver Package! I am so hyped!! :E

I don't consider CS:S to be a port...

I'd also like to ask the question, "what were you expecting?".

Cool, I wonder if it's going to be the first product to use HDR or will The Lost Coast be released earlier? :p

DOD:Source will be the first product to use HDR. The Lost Coast will be released after DOD:Source.

There is a lot of debate about your statement over on the steam forums, check iy out chris.

But wasn't it VALVe who said that Lost Coast will be the first game from them showcasing HDR? :|

Yes, but as I said earlier on in this thread, Doug Lombardi said to me earlier:
Lost Coast will follow DoD. No specific date to share just yet.

Chris_D said:

Yes, I saw that.

I still think that VALVe should stick to what they say, I know it's difficult but come on. Surely they've finished working on Lost Coast..

Chris_D said:
Actually, I've had confirmation from Doug that The Lost Coast will be after DoD: Source.

If that is true, I am starting to believe there is truth to these Valve waiting for R520 rumours. If they are true, I have lost some respect for valve. Why did they continually say TLC was coming before?

It's obviously not true. If that was the case then DOD:Source wouldn't be released until the R520 is out.

I can only assume it isn't finished. They're doing shit loads of work on it. As I just said in another thread, I believe they're having to do four passes on each bit of art they do for the game. So effectively, every single model, texture etc. is needed to be created four times. It's something along those lines anyway.

[Highjack Mode On]
Dystopia demo released!!!
[Highjack Mode Off]

You know Valve, they definately don't want to release something with their name on it until they think it's perfect.

I'm just glad they learned from their mistake with HL2's multiple release dates. As long as they give us a great product, I wouldn't care if they never told us the exact release date on anything they make. I quite thoroughly enjoyed being surprised with hl2dm's release.

Thanks, I was just on the Steam forums, and there is a whole club over there that thinks they are delaying it to wait for ATI. I call them the Tin Hat club.

someone needs to get a torrent out on that..

Some 'Lead Editor' you are. You post this info in a thread about DOD:S, and only after someone inquires about it?

Thanks for your input. I will post it on the front page when I'm ready to and as I've already planned to.

Cheers.

No Grey fox you were being the ass. Saying it looks like a port, when certainly it isn't. It would be called a port if they did indeed use the old player models/weapon models. But they aren't, get the facts straight before trying to flame someone.

Chris_D, I visit this site. I visit here before any other HL/Steam edit: (fan)site, including hlfallout and certainly planetbleh. I've found many maps, mods and info I look for here.

Just wondering why sometimes Valve gives such news to a site like this versus the 'official' news location, or the offical forums - even an obviously popular fan site as this one. Especially when so many customers are looking for info on its release, with many speculating that it'll come this weekend or this week...

And then for you to sit on this info before sharing it, in a DOD:S news thread, on the 2nd page...

It wasn't officially news, I just sent him an e-mail asking the question and that was his response. He would have given the same response to anyone who had asked the question.

One of the things I'm also waiting for is some clarification as to why their plans changed to make it all the more worthwhile when it is posted on the front page. Trust me, I know what I'm doing...

Don't say that- up until now VALVe's schedule for DoD:S was "when it's done, which is soon". Now it's actually done... so we have a release date. Making comments like that is not only patronising tawards VALVe, but it's completely unjustified.
September 30th. Nuff said.

But I believe this one as well. Thank goodness I can't wait!

No Grey fox you were being the ass. Saying it looks like a port, when certainly it isn't.
Our interpretations of "port" is different. To me it is also. It's DoD:S, not DoD 2. This certainly isn't a sequel. It's not that I mind, just clearing something up. It's damned-ass nice one. Other than appearances however, almost nothing (from the gameplay to the map routes) have changed.

Lost what? DoD is where it's at. ^_^

I thought you may be waiting on some clarification or more info; my original complaint is with Lombardi mostly. Obviously the info was ok to put out, why does it show up here, buried on the 2nd page in DOD:S news thread?

Of course you know what you're doing, just commenting to the backa**wards trickle-down route Valve news takes sometimes.

Perhaps. But i think that is finished, and they chose to wait for the R520 because Lost Coast is the level that it's really going to show it off. DOD may have it availible to use, but it won't be as imaginative and spectacular as lost coast will make it out to be (make's sense, DOD is more of a real life gritty world, instead of HL2 fanatasy world).

My 2 cents, i'm probably wrong, but whatever.

We can expect gameplay to be somewhat different, just because of the new physics possibilities and whatnot. It'll certainly feel a bit different.

5,500th post. Good god.

so.. um..just to add some light-hearted humor, why didn't Valve pick September 30th as the release date? :E

im joking!!! :)
anyway good news and i am excited to say the least

So they are going to charge 20,- for a port.

It's not a port, that would say the devs didn't change a thing but they have changed it, they changed it alot. DoD:S will have smoke grenades, ironsights, rifle grenades, rate of fire switch for autos (hinted at bya dev at dayofdefeat.net) and much more done to major game play elements, let alone the graphs overhaul. For better or for worst DoD:S is looking like CODs game play more and more.

Note about the posted pic, no bayonet on the k98.

I think the rumours are pretty invalid considering we know the game will run on x800 cards and above anyway. What's to wait for if a lot of people's cards can already run the game steadily without an upgrade?

Also, if they were waiting for the latest ATI cards then they wouldn't be releasing DOD:Source before them.

Anyway, the ATI deal was purely during the run up to HL2s release. They may very well still favour ATI cards but I'm pretty sure any public demos Valve has recently done have been running on nVidia SLI cards.

But Half Life 2 does not benefit from SLI, it actually makes it around 10 FPS slower. So unless thay got a special driver from nVidia TLC was running slower then a single 6800 ultra.

Well I kind of expected a port, cause I could swear I read that valve were porting DoD to the source engine and calling it DoD:source. I thought it would be 10,-, cause the silver pack owners payed 10,- more over the bronze packages, and silver includes DoD:source. But I guess I was wrong, I'm sry.
