PickItUp, Day Of Defeat: Source's character animator, has revealed more information on how the work with DOD: Source is coming along in a post on the official Day Of Defeat forums:
"It will be a 95% straight port. Codemonkey Mathew Boone has worked up a couple of really great features that are not really new, but are rather better implementations of current features. Wavemaster Kelly Thornton's sounds are great.[br]

Model Genius Jakob Jungels is really taking advantage of Source and creating some terrific artwork. Hammer Guru's Iikka Karanen and Tim Holt are working their magic on a few of the maps. And I, John Morello II, have done NOTHING! LOL! So there's the other 5%."
This sounds very exciting, and from the looks of it, there doesn't seem to be much more for the team to work on, thence the game could be getting wrapped up and hopefully released soon.[br]
Take a look at the original post here, and check out the official Day of Defeat site here.

I was hoping for at least 10% new content! :p

This is better than nothing though, glad its coming along and looking forward to playing! :)

I dont see how they can justify selling it as a stand alone if there's no new content ...who's going to pay $40 for a game that's already out? ...thankfully I bought the silver version of HL2 which comes with it

Bah! 95% port and they are still going to charge extra for it?

BAH!!!

I think they mean 95% gameplay. And we have no idea how much they will charge for it: with Steam, it could be $5 and they would still recoup the money spent on wages and whatnot.

Neat. Even tho i dont like dod ill check it out later.

They're redoing the maps and the models....

It says so in the post itself.....

:-\

Since they are making new models from it I'm sure it will be more like CS : S than HL : S.

If they are redoing the maps for a product they are going to individually sell it would be ridiculous to assume the textures and other assets won't be updated as well. Iikka Karanen is a mapping god, and anyone who would argue with that statement never played Avalanche more than 5 minutes. DOD:S is going to rock the house down, so all you haters just step off! :D

Why kind of bullshit is that?

If I'm gonna buy the game I expect better game play, graphics, and performance at the time I buy the game...not some damn updates.

I like dod :). Can't wati until it comes out. And i think it will be more like Cs:Source

So you didn't like CS:S?

If they are on a good formula don't break it.

Oh P.S. they are making new models etvc he means 95% gameplay wise.

Yeah but people don't read on when they see something they don't like, they rather bitch and rant about it.

I would be happy when the same happens to CS:S and not DOD:S. :/

95%? then why has it taken so long?
they will probably do the "water" thing with the maps with water, update player models and tweaks maps slightly.. hardly worthwhile a separate retail package and it hardly justifies the time its taken to be released.

perhaps, like with hl:s, they should rename it to dod:water because that is the major upgrade we will see.

You have no idea how long it's taken.

And the DOD team gets called onto other projects to help finish them off.

hehe you used the word thence hehehehehehehehehahahaa

you need to read posts more carefully and try harder to understand them. the impression i and others are getting is that the game will be essentially the same game (just as cs:s is the same as cs) with 5% new stuff. the models, sounds, and maps are all being reworked, and i wont be suprised if it ends up looking even better than cs:s. i think dod is an amazing looking game considering its engine is so old. i know the dod team wont let us down, they have only improved the game over the years.

New content means new maps. 95% old content means old maps, old models, etc. Sounds more and more like HL:S.

What has the dev team been doing?!

ofcourse maps and models will be redone
he means the "feel" of the game is 95% the same
but fps will be 50% the same i think :(

oh wow, your impressions...
so what you are saying is that this is all just speculation!
welcome to the internet :dozey:

considering PIU actually said in his post a lot of work was being done on models sounds and maps, i think we can take it for granted this isnt going to be a HL: Source type job. Think more along the lines of CS:S

graphical update, gameplay 95% the same.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but wasn't it mentioned on the Steam forums a few months back that DoD:S would be pretty much a port of DoD 1.3, to be periodically updated with new features?
