i've got only 3 RAM slots on my motherboard. Two have been taken by 256mb x2 which is DDR. I have 1 spare slot. now i want to get 1Gb of ram in total. can i just buy a 512mb DDR stick n put it into the spare slot or do i always have to put DDR ram in pairs like 2X 512mb?

Check your mobo manual but I don't thin you _have_ to you. I think inorder for the ram to run in dual channel, yes.

If you only have 3 slots, then it is most likely NOT a dual channel board. The only way to get up to 1gig is abviuos. HAVE A BLAST! ! !

A 512 MB DIMM will work, but you'll need to find out if your mobo is currently running in dual channel mode. Whether it is or isn't, it will still work with the third DIMM, but you will notice a significant relative speed hit if it was in dual-channel.

Whats dual channel?? ^^"
cuz I want to buy a new computer and I dont know if this is an important feature.
