k i made the bsp in hl1 hammer and got it all in and working... so here is what i got so far (btw im having a problem with ropes so just deal with it :p)

this is kinda like the bridge map for AAO...

what you all think??? (btw it takes 25 minuits to compile so i fix lots of problems at a time.)

I have some questions for you that I NEED answered!!

How the hell do you get a map to compile correctly???!!!

Here is what I do: I select the shape tool, using a block tool I make a box... i put in an info_player_start and a terrorist start thing... then I put an environment light in... i save it, then compile it, i get no errors , but the damn thing NEVER shows up in the list of maps to choose from from the CREATE SERVER part of CS:S...

So I was wondering if you could PLEASE tell me step by step what you do to get your maps working... it would be so appreciated!!

you have to copy the bsp, which is created in the compiled maps directory in the build options, into the cstrike maps directory in your css directory.

How did you get water that nice ? ;(, mines all crappy.

Also!, where the hell are all the prefabs ? eg: computers, chairs etc..., acording to the prefab factory, there isnt any :|

The chairs and stuff are added by adding a prop_physics and then selection world model and browse, you get it from there.
 
This maps been out forever, it was made using the leak about a month ago @ hl2 world.

Its an alright map, theres better though.
 
Now, that actually looks quite fun to play :) I'm gonna download and hope someone in Europe will put it on their server.

just so you know, it has a 3d sky but i put to much fog in it and env_dustmotes and env_persipitation dont work either :(. i think i am messing a setting up. i made that window texture myself :) i have a dudv map (make it like looking throu the water but differnt) but i need to set it up. there is soo much you can learn from other vmt files.

EDIT: i also have some destrowed cars on the bridge but dint get a shot of them.
 
Map is really good. I don't care for leaked content/editor and all, I'm glad there are a few mappers who made progress so fast.

Only problems I see:

-sounds are screwed sometimes. I sometimes can't hear myself use the knife (minor problem)
-windows don't show up in the "love shacks"
-ladders are very hard to use when you want to go down. Also, you almost can't see them when you're on top of them.
-bombsite is a little hard for ct's. They don't stand a chance, especialy if all the wood has been broken by a grenade. also, the shadows of the bombsite floor are weird on the water.

Overall a very nice map, and fun gameplay.
Just played it on my tiny 6 player server, was very convincing.
 
thats because any other verssion i have released dosnt have models or windows... or 80% of the new stuff i added.

ne way, thanks. im not going to releas it till im 100% done... cuz every one thinks stuff sucks before its done and therfore it will always suck... :rolleyes: you know de_dust started out as a random box right?

You said something about ropes... are you going to make the bridge golden gate style? You know, with ropes to support the bridge?
 
Your map rules mate. I love the way you can actually stand on tables and stuff, I love blocking the love shack door with an overturned table.
That bridge with all those cars is lush too, any chance we can get a tiny bit more cover in one or two places though please.
Its a bit of a shame we dont get the telegraph poles, nice tables or windows, but hey.

Like the idea of having Golden Gate bridge style ropes, and is there someway you can sort it so that the bomb doesnt hover after the wood is destroyed? Can be a bit of a pain to have an undefusable bomb.

Pretty please remove the kill boxes on that slope. I hate edging my way all the way down, then dying just before I hit the bottom.

Move the T spawns along a bit, its a bit annoying having the CTs on your side of the bridge before you even move anywhere.

Maybe move the spawns up into both of the shacks thinking about it, that would be a nice idea.

This is very... hopeful, and we will probably have to wait for HL2 to be released first, but do you think there would be some way of getting a tram system going between both sides? Maybe turn the shacks into a tram stations, and aligning them. That would be awesome.

If you lean how to, do you think when the bomb explodes at the upper Bsite, you could get the middle tower to crumble? I think that would kick ass to see that thing collapse.

Im thinking maybe have a boat down at the waters edge, not usable, just there for kicks, maybe a shored rowing boat tied up or something.

Some sounds would be nice, maybe the whistling of the wind when you stand on the bridge.

Sorry if my post is a bit big, just a few cool ideas that would be nice if you could take them into consideration.
If anything helps, great, otherwise feel free to ignore it all.

sorry but im not doing golden gate style, that would just look out of place, the ropes are going to be for the telly phone polls.

im going to be adding ALOT of detail, i have a hole bunch of models in maya but i dont think i can import them to hammer :(.

also the kill box is there so the T's cant just go jump over the edge... also if you hold the back buttion you can jusr slide down, use the stars, jump off brigde or you can slid down the hill over by the house, it sticks out.

i had the t's spawn father away because i want the ct's to defends... but thats not workinf to well so ill move it back.

also we (joshuaC and I) are working on getting the bridge to explode... the only thing is we want to use models :) but no importer :(.

Sample models
There is a sample Counter-Strike model and XSI sources in the SDK directory under cstrike_sample_content\model_sources. To build it, run this command prompt:



"%sourcesdk%\bin\studiomdl" "%sourcesdk%\cstrike_sample_content\model_sources\urban\urban.qc"

Then look under cstrike_sample_content\models\player\urban_sample.mdl for the model you just built.

only things I'd suggest are to figure out a way to make people die if they jump off the bridge, you can jump into the water and not take any damage. Maybe make the bombsite a bit harder to get to, like having to go nearer to the CT spawn to get there, and a bit more cover or fog on the bridge itself.

Other than that, an excellent map, very fun to play.
 
Hey guys, I am having problems with lighting, I have no light sorces however when I test the map it is full of light. any Ideas?

add a light, make it varry low, and then make sure you render with normal rad.

and joshua... un ban me :p i cant get proxys working.

yes... but after the map reset its all gone... :|

after i finish the bridge blowing up, im releasing a beta :) (hopefully today)
