Dead Rising: almost worth buying an xbox360 for

Lightsabers!?...Unbrellas!?...... Benches???? Coneheads?
Dear god D:

Wow. I thought this game might be good, but that looks great! The sheer variety of weapons and interactivity with the environments is incredible! I wonder if all of the mindless stomping with seemingly simplistic AI will get boring though...

Damnit, now I might really have to invest in a 360! Wii first, then price-cut 360, then price-cut PS3. That should cover me for a while and future-proof me for any games that might come my way from any direction!

Now that is an awesome looking game. One major problem though...Where's my (Split-screen) multiplayer?

Preferably co-op.

beheading zombies with a snowboard!

Meh, I want a serious non-linear third person zombie game, not some over the top cheesy as hell thing.

Yeah, it's all but confirmed that there's no MP.

Now I just need to see 4 or so games I really want on the 360 and I'll actually consider buying it sometime next year.

Damn you Stern and Axyon...

Up until today I've had no problem resisting the 360...then all of a sudden an awesome game comes along that I really want.

I'll just have to focus on the fact that it has no mp.

you're missing the beauty of the genre ..it works best when it's camp (Return of the Living Dead, shaun of the dead) and worst when it's serious (exceptions being day of the dead, 28 days)

Amishslayer: I agree this would be awesome in co op ..give me another half dozen games like this, add co op to the majority of the titles and I might just buy an xbox360

Yeah, the no MP is unfortunate, but the Gamespot preview just revealed that you can unlock a no-limits sandbox mode, instead of having to adhere to the 3-hour time limit of the story mode (granted, the limit increases when you do story missions, but it's still a limit).

Seems incredibly repetitive, no story, nothing that brings the character forward, no "goal" to reach, just endless throwing stuff at zombies and saving people...comon people, where is the story and the climax?

There is a story - as you play through the game you find out why the zombies are there, and what created them.

However, f*ck the story when you've got a sandbox mall-based zombie game.

really old trailer, but it looks pretty cool. It seems way too cheezy, its just like run around killing zombies in funny/cool ways. I have a huge problem with the fact that none of the zombies seem to be coming at him at all, they just randomly move around and every once and a while will attack him, not at all like dawn of the dead. It looks like you're just massacreing a bunch of unresponsive people just meandering around the mall.

Looks like it could be an hour of arcade fun though.

One of the first weapons that we found at the mall was a soccer ball, which isn't lethal to zombies, but when kicked hard enough, can knock several to the ground before bouncing off somewhere and waiting to be retrieved. Buckets can be pulled down over zombies' heads, CD cases can be thrown at zombies like shuriken, coat hangers can be forced into (through, technically) zombies' mouths, mannequins and large, novelty plastic cacti can be used to hit multiple zombies with a single blow, and your choice of guitar at the music store will determine the noise it makes when you club a zombie over the head with it.

oh and there is a story

Co-op is like THE best quality of any game ever.

Any game is brought up like 20+ % in quality if there's co-op. Hell, games like Gauntlet would just plain suck if it weren't for the addictive teamwork aspect of Co-op.

Just think of any game out there and imagine how much more fun it would be if you could go through it as a team with 1 or more other people.

I swear to god, the game industry would explode with sales if a lot more games had co-op.

I agree ..in fact the only time I ever play xbox is with a friend ..there's just not enough co-op games

Gonna get this along with 360 in somewhere around July or August.

This Fall and early Winter looks awesome for Xbox360!

This was one of the reasons I picked up a 360.

I like the way this game is very short - it can be finished in just 6 hours - and how it's been designed to be completed over and over again. Each time is meant to offer a different experience, your chosen actions revealing new elements to the story, new characters, different endings etc.

A zombie sandbox game set in a mall with story to uncover, a plot to create, and more weapons than you could shake a hockey stick at :)

Camp movies are horrible. Shaun of the Dead and Return of the Living Dead were comedies, not camp. There's a difference. Camp is unintentional.

And, with the serious stuff, I can count the number of serious zombie movies on both of my hands. Romero's quadrilogy and 28 Days Later taking up one hand.

The game looks fun, if it gets a good review, I'll probably buy it, but still...I'm wishing for the good, fun, serious zombie game.

no camp is delibrate not unintentional ...like the Batman tv show

there isnt all that many zombie movies to begin with because as a premise there's not a lot of meat to them (I made a funny)

The idea of a zombie sandbox playpen where you can do whatever you want is very cool. However, I think the game might get old after a few hours.

Regardless, if I had a 360 I would definitely pick it up.

Maybe not enough to cover in one movie. That's why The Walking Dead comic is so successful, it covers society, the characters, and how they survive.

never heard of the comic ..but that sort of narrative is too hard to do in a 2 hr movie ..especially since most horror fans want more blood less dialogue ..that's why ultimately horror movies suck: they pander to the visceral (blood guts etc) whereas successful horror movies (excorcist, rosemary's baby, silence of the lambs) are more about psychological fear ...but i digress

But my point is with the game, they could cover the same exact stuff a book or comic series does. Resident Evil tries, but it falls into the camp area with its hilariously bad dialogue and over the top cheesy as hell villains.

...I just remembered Capcom is making Dead Rising...ironic.

Hm, this looks pretty good. I'm looking forward to this, will definitely grab it on release.

Snowboard haha, isn't that a skateboard :D

Who cares - their heads get turned to jam either way :)

Haha yea. I wonder what Jack Thompson will say about this game when kids start playing it, it's even more violent than GTA =D

It's probably ok as zombies are getting minced up, not people.

I want this game now!

Jack Thompson:

Old people = move like zombies

Violent game = killing zombies

Dead Rising = Old People Murder Simulator!

Looks awesome. And I really don't care about MP, never have - singleplayer is where its at.

Found a neat trailer on the official website, but Im not sure if it's 100% ingame footage because there are reflections on the floors and the lightning looks so realistic compared to what I've seen on other trailers and screenshots.

Take a look! http://www.capcom.co.jp/deadrising/top_en.html

You think there will be floor reflections like that? even if it's just a small detail it brings much realism to the game :D
