Sorry, looked and there was only threads about it with the Wii, and new controls or something.

spoilersish-

Anyways, I just beat this, and... I am slightly confused about the marker, I didn't follow it because often the dialogue was interrupted by loud background noise.

So... it was made by man? But there's a real one? So why did the chick want the marker so bad if it was the fake one? Really confused what she was saying

[ spoiler] and [/ spoiler], without the spaces.

Thanks.

The government found the original marker hundreds of years ago and tried to keep it a secret. A scientist told people about how the marker was capable of giving people immortality and that the government wanted to keep the Marker for themselves. This eventually led to the fastest growing religion of Unitology. Unitology has millions of followers, a highly successful mining company, and some of the biggest corporations. The mining ship that the game takes place on is owned by the Church of Unitology, and all of the leaders on the ship are Unitologists. The government builds a new Marker and places it on the planet that the U.S.G. Ishimura is orbiting, which is in restricted space, as an experiment. When the Unitologists find it, they want to take it back to the church. As it turns out, Daniels is actually working for the government and was sent to retrieve the Marker after the success of the experiment, which is why she tricked you into retrieving it.
This is what I gathered from the journal logs, audio logs, and video logs that I found, which, I miraculously found all of them on my first playthrough.

I don't exactly understand what the experiment is though? To get a bunch of people infected to see what happens?

Also, the manmade marker still has powers?

After studying the Marker, they made a new one to use for the experiment, probably so they wouldn't take any risks of losing the original. As for the reason of the experiment, they probably wanted to see the effects of it out of the lab, where they couldn't effect the transformations.

There were still a lot of untied knots in my opinion, was the necromorphs created BY the marker or did they already exist on the planet? Afterall, the Marker was the key to subdying the hiveminds psychic powers, hence why when the government agent started moving it again, trying to load it onto the ship, the hivemind again regained consciousness and resumed attacking.

As I said, lots of questions left unanswered. Also, one key thing to note when it comes to canon etc, the 'fake' Marker you see in the game is called the Red Marker because of the red markings on it, apparently the original marker was completely black.

Anyway, as far as I know the game doesn't make it totally clear as to what the markers purpose was, all we were told is that it was a failed experiment to replicate the original, failed in what way we do not know.

Was the failure the appearance of the necromorphs? Or the containment thereof? Remember that as soon as they found the marker and excavated it, things started going downhill, people going crazy etc, this was from the hiveminds psychic influence, it deliberately tried to make people kill themselves in order to provide 'hosts' for necromorphs. This is also interesting because this would indicate some form of sentience beyond simple animalistic instincts in my opinion.

My off-the-bat guess? The Marker(original) is a device created to control the necromorphs, whom were possibly created by some alien species either by accident, or deliberately as a weapon.

Perhaps the government knew in advance of the necromorphs, and thought that if they could find a way to control the necromorphs hiveminds by replicating and altering the marker, it would be a very powerful 'weapon' and tool.

But again, who knows, EA clearly deliberately left a lot information up to speculation seeing as they've stated themselves that Dead Space are gonna be one of their biggest original IPs, as has already been shown via the movie, the comics etc, and now rumors of EA trying to find a deal to make a live-action Dead Space-based movie.

Simplified statement: The 'experiment' was probably simply to create a new Marker themselves. The Marker itself is not what caused people to go insane etc, rather, the Marker subdues the hiveminds psychic powers, when they started moving the Red Marker, first into the colony, then finally onto the ship, this gradually gave the hivemind more psychic powers, allowing it to influence more people, tricking them into suicide and murder in order to create host bodies for itself.

Anyway, I can't wait, I loved Dead Space, especially the comics, and can't wait for EA to elaborate more on the story.

P.S. I highly recommend you read what I wrote inside the spoiler tags.<3

Hmm, makes a little more sense. Where can you find the comics and stuff?

Well I am assuming Hive Mind cannot be dead, otherwise that thing could not have attacked Issac at the End?

I cannot imagine Issac is dead, they usually don't kill off unlikely heroes so quickly. Soldiers, yes, but unlikely heroes usually last longer in games

Also, as a side note, if you are attacked by the bat like creatures that turn people into necromorphs, does Issac Become one? Because in several trailers they show Issac turn his head around and he has a necromorph head.

See what I am talking about briefly between 1:25-1:30, it's very fast

Those crawling heads that come usually from dividers have an attack that, if successful, will rip Isaac's head off and replace it with themselves. I think they're the only enemies that turn Isaac into a necromorph.

I reckon the necromorphed version of your love is in fact an hallucination, she looks way too unmutated compared to other necromorphs. Besides, I reckon the giant piece of mined rock crashing into the hivemind would kill it for sure.

But we'll hopefully find out in a sequel.

They show a necromorph version of Nicole? At the end all I heard was an alien scream and then credits?

Also, someone pointed out that all the chapters first letters spell out-

Nicole is Dead

I'm sure it's well known.

I actually was very impressed with the understated-ness of your character at the end. He never even needs to say a word.

Hot damn, I love this game.
If they make a sequel, I hope they make more enemies like the necromorphs that are invincible in the front. Fighting those bulking pieces of flesh was even better than attacking a Tank in L4D in my opinion.

I just wanted to say I just got my Isaac Clarke figure and he is awesome.

Has LED mask and spine.

I ended up getting the one that came with the Ripper rather than the plasma cutter because all the Plasma Cutter figures had ****ed up helmets.

Ok, so I get the impression that this game would be worth $20 if one could buy it for that much??

It is that price at Target currently and I was not sure if it was worth it. IS IT???

For that price I'd say it's defintitely worth it. The game could've been a bit longer but I recommend it, especially with those offers.

omg wow this thread is really making me want to play through the game again!!

Speaking of which, does anyone know where I could get a wallpaper size of this?

Without a doubt.

I thought it was more than long enough. I spent hours on my first playthrough, and once you beat it, you can start over with all of your equipment.

Nope. Check the official website.

I just have to say, Ishimura is the most retarded looking space ship I've ever seen.

I disagree, it is an awesome design.

I just watched the Downfall animated short, pretty decent, I also watched a small bit of the motion comic.

However, watching Downfall it really insinuated that everyone in command was surprised these creatures existed, while in the game I was given the impression that they had knowingly been experimenting with the necromorphs for a bit of time, IE: The embryo/infant research lab and all the x-rays of the necromorphs you could find in the medlabs

Yeah Dead Space Downfall has a fair share of continuity errors, the Wii game aims to rectify these from what I understand.

I didn't interpret that as a necromorphed version of her when I was first playing. I thought it was a hallucination, created by the Hive Mind or something of that sort.

That's actually my inteprentation as well, I just worded myself badly :p
