The price of Dead Space on Steam has finally dropped. Would you recommend it to me? I love the dark/creepy atmosphere, but in the end I fear that the game is too action oriented. As an example, Bioshock was too shooterish for my taste. Thank you.

It's OK game, you should get it if its cheap. I's better on consoles though, controls are terrible on pc and it just feels like a console port overall.

highly recommended
great atmosphere, an interesting enough story and plenty of action (but not too much!)

not sure what it's like on PC as I played it on a 360

I have it but never finished it on xbox. it was scary but I got stuck on a boss. I probably should look online for some tips but it also is a bit creepy if you play at 3am with headphones in the dark when you're really really tired

I never finished it but I quite enjoyed it. Good atmosphere, pretty lovely environments and some great moments. Gameplay was pretty solid, I just never got around to picking back up from where I left off because of Far Cry 2, GoW2 and Fallout 3.

Yeah the controls are terrible if you're an avid FPS player but you get used to it.

I felt the COMPLETE opposite. I played the whole game on PC and loved it, and then i went to a friends house and tried it out on his 360. I had to quit after about 10 minutes because i simply could not navigate or aim at all. I felt disoriented and confused.

Good game. I got bored about 2/3 through, but still rate it.

I saw it for PS3/360 for $14.98 or $19.99 (can't remember exactly) at Target a while back and didn't get it. Too many other games to get at the time. Oh well. Still too many other games I desperately want.

30 bucks? Probably. I'd wait until Xmas though when it drops to 25-20.

Good game if you like Aliens and The Thing. Story is surprisingly unique for it's genre.

It's pretty much the core gameplay of Resident Evil 4/5 only you aim for the limbs instead of the head. It's good fun. Tense.

It is a fun & scary game that's full of atmosphere.

If you don't like the controls, then I would advise you to search through my older back posts, as I post a program that you can use to rebind all your controls for the game, as you cannot change the games default controls. That was the only way I was able to play the game, as I am NOT a WADS user.

How is the Xbox controller support for Dead Space on PC? Is it about as good as Batman: AA? I'm thinking of getting this from Steam.

If you loved the original Resident Evil games then you won't be disappointed.
It's very scary and incredibly atmospheric. The sound work alone will make you jumpy.
The whole presentation of the game is just superb. It looks gorgeous and the PC version ran flawlessly on my system. It's not just another shoddy port. The gameplay and storyline aren't too shabby neither. The different functions of the weapons make the game fun and less repetitive that it could have been. As for the storyline, it's basically a mixture of Aliens, The Thing and Event Horizon. All great Sci-Fi horror films. So, yes. I would definitely recommend it. EA surprised me with this title. If i had a Wii, i'd get the prequel too.

This times a thousand!

If you like proper horror games like the old REs, then you have to get Dead Space, make sure to play on the higher difficulties because then items start becoming really scarce and you actually get frightened and have to pick your battles.

I thought about getting this, but decided that I needed to sleep at night.

Nothing overly special about this game but it is a very solid clone of the old resi games and if you are interested in it is definitely worth checking out (It's miles better than resi 5 that's for sure >_> )

Clone? Oh please, not as if the Resi games weren't clones themselves, they were basically clones of AITD!:p

Oh true I forget that, it's just because I've never played AITD

How are the controls? Are they like Silent Hill II? I had to stop playing that game because of the control scheme. Do you have a link to that program?

I'm a big fan of RE 4/5 but I honestly found Dead Space kind of boring. I can't even really give good reasons why, it just didn't do much for me.

R 4 and 5 are the worst in the series. Dead Space is a more truer sequel than either one of them are. They're shitty shooters with the horror setting as an after thought.

In terms of being faithful to the series both RE4 and 5 fail miserably

In terms of being a good game I still thought 4 was good but not 5

i seriously regret trading in deadspace (on the 360) it was brilliant and i really feel like playing it again. the missions do get a LITTLE samey but the whole game oozed atomosphere and the dismembering mechanic never grew stale.

Yeah resi 4 was an outstanding game on its own merits(which is how I looked at it as I never played a Resi game) but for fans the change was probably very annoying

The controls are great, you can actually move and shoot at the same time, and both strafe and so forth, it's not like playing a 'walking-tank' ala RE4 for example or the older SH games.

i think the controls are fantasic, you really get a sense of 'wieght' to isaac clunking around in a big heavy suit without him feeling like the walking-tank you describe.

Indeed, although you do not feel like a walking tank, you still most certainly feel like you're wearing a heavy mining suit, and the animations look proper too.

If you can learn the controls, the game has great replay value. After you beat the game, you can play through it again with all of the weapons and upgrades you got during the previous game. I've beat it three times and still feel like playing it. Probably the only game from last year that's been able to do that for me.

That's one of the thing RE5 does better than Dead Space though IMO, in RE5 you can carry over the equipment etc to a higher difficulty, you can not in Dead Space.

You can only replay at the difficulty level you start, if you change, you loose all equipment/armor etc you had gained on your original playthrough.
