Deathmatch is a must have

These few words disturbed the huge Half-Life community once again in their sweet HL² dreams. I got something as "If they don't do it, We'll do it!" and what started out as a quick brain impulse ended in posting this proposal on this message board. Since I, myself spend many many hours of my spare time playing Half-Life 1 Deathmatch on LAN and Internet it felt not right not giving the possibility for new-generation gamers to experience an alike old school deathmatch adventure.

When I thaught about the requirements to realize this very doable project I came to the conclusion that with few but dedicated talents we can bring the Half-Life fanbase a pure quality mod.

This is why I made this thread here on this board. I'm curious if some of you might think alike me about this issue. If you feel right to take part in this project feel free to reply on this thread or contact me via e-mail on [email protected].
I have the intention to finish this modification with a very reliable team of 4 to 5 people. Please when advertising yourself do put enough information regarding knowledge, experience, etc.

The principle is to adjust the HL2 game code so multiplayer Deathmatch becomes possible. NPC Characters
taken from the singleplayer can be enhanced to playable multiplayer models.
Altered singleplayer environment serve perfect for possible multiplayer maps as well as revamped Half-Life 1 maps and maybe later on brand new maps are understandable.

This is not much work compared to other ambitious modifications and a small crew of gathered talent is more then enough to create an over-the-top Deathmatch expierence. :)

Valve will probably already include the necessary code for DM in the SDK...
 
In case of enough positive feedback on this matter by possible future team mates, I will upload a dedicated web site with all necessary information.
 
The problem (well, one of them) that you're going to face is that you won't be the only one attempting such a project. Each project will have it's own ideas and methods. Too much diversity will kill it.
 
yep im afraid of the situation that there are 30 dm mods out there and none of them will survive

That's not what I'm saying. Each team that sets out to create such a mod will end up with a different result. Different balance to the weapons, different strengths/weaknesses for the players, different maps, different use of vehicles etc. No two will be the same, and that's a bad thing in the long run. Maybe, ultimately, a couple of teams would merge, or one mod would prove to be more popular than the others, but then there's whole bucketloads of wasted time and duplicated effort.

I think that's what he's hinting at.. You all know that he wants fame and glory.
 
This is ridiculous. It's 2 games in 1 and people say they wanted only 1.

I'm sorry but I can't follow anymore. 2 games in 1? Fame and glory? Someone back me up please.
 
1. Dassbabathehut's goal with Kingdom Lost is to get it "published" yadayada.. And now it looks like he's going to take his team and do a HLDM (hoping that it will become popular and having Valve pick it up) instead of KL, killing both mods.

2. Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source are 2 separate games. In one package.

2. hldm - huh? some of the mods in contact with valve (anonymous?) emailed valve, and we're seeing what they say about HL2 and people modding it for multiplayer- i'm seeing what I can do to get some coders together in a chat later on and hopefully some people working collectively on a multiplayer option for HL2 single player...everyone who ive talked to about it is "in"

i'm restraining from talking about mods/teams too much because 95% of mods will find themselves dead later on

i hope this is the last post i whore here!

I'm going completely offtopic right now but I read dassthing his web site about your upcoming mod 'Kindgom Lost'.
I was wondering, do you really think that's going to work out? It's so complicated, mix of probably all the games you played or read about, i'm actually kind of suprised that you hadn't the idea to include mass multiplayer.
Plus hitting each other with an axe/sword/lance/whatever all the time, boring as hell if you ask me.
But offcourse then you spoke to the valve guys for a hldm and that's maybe not so a bad thing then you can split your 50 hard working man team in two.
If I were you I should certainly rethink about your nifty mod idea and what you're doing here.

No harm, no offence intended, it's a free country and just my 2 cents after seeing you arguing here with SixThree about nothing.
