I'm looking for a good-looking relatively new helicopter game, a bit like Commanche4 but newer and better...

Anyone got any suggestions?

I know flight sim X has some choppers, but I want something mission-based where I can blow stuff up etc.

I remember playing Commanche CD. I still have the disk somewhere but I don't think it works anymore. :(

I don't think there are any good ones right now.

if you have a PS2,Operation Thunder Strike wasn't the worst
it gave you the ability to customize your chopper

It doesn't take much of an IQ to tell the difference between a helicopter and a submarine.

hah, excellent.

Probably the best thing on the horizon is the Ka-50 Black Shark expansion for Lock On: Modern Air Combat, which itself is turning into it's own game based on the Lock On engine with some improvements.....this game is one of those ultra realistic simulators....I've played Lock On and its fairly realistic as well and has a steep learning curve.

The next official add-on for Lock On was to be called Black Shark. The publisher has now confirmed that this will instead be a stand alone game based on the Kamov Ka-50 helicopter as a flyable aircraft. The last official release date for Black Shark is early 2008 (there were earlier dates given that all turned out to be hype) according to the Lock On website.
Black Shark will allegedly feature an all new clickable cockpit system, and a re-vamped physics engine. An Apache and a A-10 add-on are eventually planned for this new simulator.

Enemy Engaged is a very good chopper sim, though its a bit older than Commanche 4. Get both Commanche Versus Hokum and Apache Versus Havoc; installing them both gives you the updated engine of CvsH and the choppers that are in AvsH. If graphics and realistic features interest you then modding the game is well worth it (if you can be bothered).

While the game is a sim its got a lot of options so you can make it about as arcadey as Commanche 4 if that's your thing. It also has a dynamic campaign that makes up missions as you play, so it has almost never ending replay value.

The Black Shark expansion for Lock On: Modern Air Combat looks amazing, exactly what i'm looking for ... but it's not out yet ;(

Enemy Engaged does look pretty good as well. I downloaded LHX Attack Chopper the other day. The game is ancient and the graphics reflect that, but the gameplay is still amazing. I started the thread to find a game with similar amazing gameplay but a more modern version with amazing graphics to match.

Will try out Enemy Engaged 2 :D Cheers lobster dude, duck dude and all you other dudes. Apart from the submarine dude. What were you thinking.

Commanche Gold ftw!!

You can always buy Microsoft Combat FS2 and install some addon helos ;)

Only chopper game I ever played was ages and ages ago.
