i'd like to know whether there will be a dedicated hl2 server for linux and what kinda hardware it will need. i want to host one when it's out.

i assume a 2ghz cpu and 512 mb ram are recommended, but i havent found anything bout that yet. maybe you also know how much traffic such a server can produce if it's well known?

Yes there will be a linux server availibility,

That setup should be able to accomodate a server, might wanna think of adding a bit more ram.

What are you planning to use to host the server. connection wise might also be helpful.

i'd rent a root server and put it on this one. most of the servers i saw have a 100mbit connection.

Considering that HL2 won't be ported over to Linux, is it still possible to run a HL2 Linux server?

hl wasn't ported to linux either, but there was a dedicated server version for linux for some obvious reasons.

It's definitely for use as a server only though...There will be no playable version of HL2 for Linux. The Source engine was written in DirectX which means that it will be Windows only. There is no way it would be economically feasible to rewrite the engine for a different OS in OpenGL.

Oh well, I guess there's always Wine or another similar program...

Plus gabe has said there will be no linux playable version,,, just a server set up for linux
