Defying Gravity is a multi-nationally produced space travel television drama series, first aired on August 2, 2009 on ABC and CTV. Set in the year 2052 (with flashbacks to five years earlier in the story's continuity), the series follows eight astronauts—four women and four men—from five countries on a six-year space mission through the Solar System, during which they are monitored from earth via a realtime, faster than light communication system. The series was pitched to networks as "Grey's Anatomy in space."

Personally I think its very meh...

it had a decent pilot... but the show is slipping, Ron Moore's space show was much better.

Boring.... it's a show therefore it's not real, therefore it has nothing to do with actually defying gravity except for the green screen and some ropes/pullies, therefore it's boring. :).

I want to slap you right now. :hmph:

I think there exists the potential for a great low end space drama, but its lurking somewhere between the '****ing with you reality TV ideas' of Virtuality and the more straightforward 'space is sexy' approach of Defying Gravity. This show isn't complete drivel (it fills in the time waiting for new episodes of mad men or True Blood), but its incredibly ham fisted and the characterisation is writ large on the actors faces. Who cares that the crew are hallucinating, when's Donner going to get it together with Zoe again seems to be the more important concern of the writers. I doubt it will be renewed.

Haha Ive quoted this guy twice about how judgmental he is. So how many shows do you watch where they don't use any of that stuff...?

Why would they call the show Defying Gravity. Why couldn't they name it Space Adventures or something. I mean seriously leave the name "Defying Gravity to show that has to do with science.

Well they are Defying Gravity with magnetic hairspray... no, that is really in the show.

The last episode was actually half decent as they concentrated on the mythology rather than whose going to bone who, though I suspect it will be too late to save it from the chop.

Well, the show is canceled, well thats what they get for dragging it out for SO ****ING LONG!

it's not cancelled. it's an international coproduction meaning that even if ABC stops showing it, it'll continue to air out its remaining episodes in Germany, Canada, and other places.

They've paid for the episodes, so naturally they'll show them.

I saw this on Hulu & started to watch it. Looked like a show I could really get into, as I'm a fan of pretty much every "To Infinity & Beyond" type of space movie & I made it through the first 3 episodes until I just simply lost interest. I thought the Pilot episode was excellent, but the following episodes quickly lost my attention.

Damn it. I hate to admit it but after some initial shitty episodes this got to be quite good. It was kind of predictable where it's going, but still enjoyable at the same time. I guess its been cancelled now (though there is no official word), but there was something genuinely endearing about the characters, esp Donner.

"Grey's Anatomy in space." sounds like enough reason not to watch it.

It is time for Deep-Voice Trailer Man to be replaced by Helium-Voice Trailer Man. So mote it be.
