Delay HL2 till next Christmas

This would be a good idea IMO. Firstly as some kind of punishment to all those who stole and aquired the beta. Secondly so that people will forget about the game for a bit, as im sure their strating to do with DOOM III after that leak and thirdly to make improvements based on critisim of the beta.

1. what about the people who didnt acquire the beta? should they be punished too?

2. why would I want to forget about HL2?

3. why the hell would they make improvements based on a beta, its niave to even assume the beta people have is the build valve do. in fact its to the point of proven this build is as old as the hills.

he is only stating his opinion.
however I do not believe he has all the facts behind his ideas. so its best to explain to someone something, rather than shoot them down and they never learn.
 
as long as DX 2 IW is out for this christmas im set thats all i want.

Not to mention hat the graphics will be starting to get dated adn then there would be no point in choosing an ati over a nvidia cause they call could play them easily

IMO = In my opinion

I disagree. Not releasing the game ‘sooner than later’ would not be a very good financial decision for Valve. Much of their intellectual property is now, presumably, in the hands of competitors. Even if another gaming company can’t directly use the exposed source code to make a game any programmer can look at the code and learn from it. Valve will not want to keep the game off the shelves for too long for fear of other companies catching up with them in the interim between now and HL-2s inevitable release.

It’s hard to know what Valve is going to do next but waiting another year to release just seems like corporate suicide to me. They won’t do it.

This is just my personal opinion but I am guessing that Valve is reworking Steam at the moment since it is a ‘digital rights management system’ intended for commerce and needs to be fixed before the can “do business” with it. With the source code for Steam out there in the wild there would be no way they could collect credit card data with it now. Not to mention that Steam most likely could not handle to load in its current state, anyway.
 
I think Valve will release it before christmas, and this thread needs to be locked.

When will you people learn. Vivendi said HL2 will be released in april 2004 and last time they were right. Denial is a wonderful thing.

April 2004. Accept it and move on.
 
I think they should say they're delaying it a few months. Then when that release date approaches they can delay it again. Then around Xmas of 2004 they can announce that HL2 has been cancelled and we can all look forward to yet another Counter-Strike rehash.

It's TF2 all over again.

Well, at least I have Doom 3 and Deus Ex II to look forward to in 2004, maybe.

Uhh...yeah. This wouldn't be a punishment to those who downloaded the beta, it'd be a punishment to those of us who are patiently awaiting the game. Those that have the beta will just play it. Just wait, I bet they'll pull through and release it within the next two months.

i dought they will make a nov date mybe a jan.2004 that beta was bight b4 sept 30 so they need ALOTTA work to be done

The "demo" that was leaked, is alot older then the E3 demo that was at E3 more then 8 months ago, go read man.
 
Yeah, why don't they punish those 500 people who downloaded the beta along with 5,000,000 people who didn't download it. Great idea.

dx2 is delayed till q1 2004 sadly i wanted that so badly

think before you speak. sure you're punishing the people who stole the source, but you're also punishing the other 99.99999999999999% of the community waiting anxiously for the game.
