Deleted threads

Just a question for the mods, why was my "Bush, SDI, and the future of the planet" thread removed from general chat? I put quite a bit of effort into writing it, and I know there was a lot of crazy talk from a few people about invading America and whatnot, but I was really hoping some serious discussion would come about. I don't think the mere possibility that a thread will become flamey is justification for deleting it.

I know about this: http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=47975 , but based on the last few posts in the thread that I read, the discussion was cooling down. In fact, there never really was any flaming, just a bit of crazy discussion about a hypothetical invasion of the US from a few semi-insane individuals.

Also, why was it deleted outright, rather than simply being closed? Deleting a thread implies that the content in the first post is breaking some rules... I'd really like to know what objection there was to my post.

This has all been explained a million and one times

political threads are being deleted, talk in the single sticky until we setup a politics section when all the deleted threads will be moved to that so people can post in them again.

It was deleted outright as its untidy to have so many closed threads.

It's not as if I posted my thread AFTER this one was put up. If they wanted to make a new rule that new political threads couldn't be made, fair enough, but simply deleting threads without warning, simply because they are political, seems a bit crazy.

This makes sense from your point of view, I'm sure, but from the point of view of a thread poster, who has put time and effort into making a well thought out, serious thread, with no intention of causing trouble, it seems very harsh that such a thread should simply vanish.

Edit: Surely each thread should be judged on it's own merit, anyway. Just because a thread is political, it shouldn't be simply considered "clutter". Politics is important to a lot of people, I don't understand why it should be limited, especially in the part of the forum in which people can talk about anything.

Cool it. I'm not after sympathy, I'm just questioning the mods' decisions on the issue. It is very frustrating to have your posts removed for arbitrary reasons like "political threads are cluttering up the forums". I broke no rules.

Each thread was checked first.. Some stayed some went.

Isn't like its gone for good, just need to wait till the new section turns up (our of our hands, upto Munro now) Then they'll all be moved over there, as I just said, so you can post in them again.

Hotsoup has checked what me and Sparrow are doing and agrees with it. So for the time being it is against the rules. Please read what I am replying to you with

Sorry, in my haste I missed the part of your post that said the threads were being moved to a new section. :dork: Having a politics section is a very good idea. I guess this thread is kind of useless now... I won't complain if you delete it
