Welcome to my idea for a Half-Life 2 Mod. Now I have no previous experience in mod making, so i'm hoping to piece together a team and make this my first foray into the mod communtiy. The game I have decided to create is called Delusions of Existence. So far, the main portion that I have done, is the basic story element. Here is a general clue about what the game's story is about.

-You play the roll of Jake Evans, a man who is going about his normal-everyday business. As of late you've been getting this awkward instances where you "blackout" temporarily. And have visions of what you are doing, but have no control over your body. (This will be playable, the whole "going about normal buisness" part)

-Soon after Jake goes into one of his "blackouts" and it ends badly in a shooting spree that kills many innocent civillians, you find yourself arrested and placed in a prison.

-You will then spend some time in the local prison, befriending your cellmate, Herschel Martinez.

-Some time later the guards are supposedly leading you towards your death-sentenced outcome, when they escort you to a side room. Once there you engage in conversation with a high-ranking military officer that places you, Hesrchel, and another prisoner in a secret government project. Nicknamed project "Rehabilitation".

-The project ends up injecting a serum that enhances the production of adrenal fluids within the glands and hypothalamus, thusly, rendering the cellmates into aggressive killing machine-like warriors.

-After some military training you are sent out on a couple of missions, however a few missions later, things go wrong. After a forced abort the project is seemingly cancelled. And that's when the trouble begins. Apparently the serum has had some "side-effects" on it's users. It seems to make them go "insane". They claim to start seeing things that aren't there, and interacting with things that don't exsist. As a result, they end up injuring those around them, and become a hazard in everyday life. The only course of action, is the military sends out teams to execute the ex-members of the project.

-You find yourself trying to escape these assassination teams, all the while witnessing the "side-effects" (these will be shown with in-game sequences much like games such as Clive Barker's Undying, and certain parts of Doom3, where events occur in an ethereal manner.)

-Soon you find yourself slipping in and out of reality, and this new world that is supposedly fake. However you're slowly learning more and more about the new world, and the line between reality and virtual begins to blur. Soon you don't know who to trust, what is real, what is just an illusion, what your actions are doing...are you really hurting some innocent person in real life that your insane mind believes is a creature after you? Or is the reality we're in not the real one?

-All in all it will tease your mind and make you question your actions and the results, trying to decide who to befriend, and who to turn against.

Not sure if this completely makes sense to everybody, but it's all mapped out in my mind and my story :p I think it would make for a great mod. To have the beginning playable like Half-Life where you don't "fight" but you live Jake's normal life, befor his shooting spree incident. Then you play through the prison element. Then the missions, then you go through the city after the project is shut-down, suffering the side effects of the serum, having all the "spooky mishaps" occur to the player. Then slipping in and out of the real world and the made up world. Befriending creatures and betraying them in the post-apocolyptic city that is supposedly just a creation within your mind...or is it?

Erhm... Over-worked I believe is a good term for that. If you want to make your *first* mod, make something short and fun (although having no control of bodily functions DOES sound like fun).

I like to make hard goals :) gives me some much needed motivation

I like the idea a lot, but you probably won't finish this project if it is your first mod, and you are leading it. Your best bet is to write a design doc and find someone who is willing to put it to reality.

desty

By design doc to you mean just an overall "this is what everything looks like / does / happens" type document?

Anybody willing to take the reigns with me at the passenger seat of this wagon trailblazing through the half life mod path of the future?
