A lot of you have probably seen this guy, but he is freaking incredible. He can mess with you sooo bad that its scary. Ill save the best vid for last.

Darren calls a guy a couple days ahead, and asks him to write down something he wants as a gift. Then a few days later Darren buys him a present, and absolutely convinces the guy that he wanted a red bmx bike. He didnt originally want it, but he swears it is. Even more impressive is the fact that he told him out right what he was going to do. Watch to the end where he shows how he did it.

Darren gets this guys wallet, keys and cell phone just by asking for them. The guy realizes what happened afterwards, and went to get them back. Then Darren gets em back, and asks for them again and walks off with them again. HAH

He has a lot more videos, check youtube for them. Post them here if you find good ones.
This one is crazy. He has a guy play a video game, then he puts the guy under a trance and brings him to a building that looks like the game, and the guy THINKS HES IN THE GAME. Totally freaks me out.

A short one. He simply has somebody switch with him during a conversation, and the other person never realizes its a different person.

This one is abso-****ing-lutely insane. He plays Russian Roulette with himself. He has a assistant load a 6 shooter with one live round, spin the thing with the bullets, and then Darren has to fire it at his own head and guess which chamber has the live round. ****ING INTENSE.

EDIT: Oh and this one. One of my favorites. It really messes with me. *creeped out*

I've seen the conversation trick before (where you switch people and the guy doesn't notice it).

That zombie game one seemed a little off though. The guy didn't seem to think he was in the game at all, it seemed more like he just ****ing freaked out because he didn't know where he was, or what was going on, and did what any sane person would try to do, use the gun he found to at least TRY to kill the zombies.

Was cool how he thought it was a dream or something though when he woke up in the pub.

Yeah, the zombie one isnt quite so convincing that he thought he was in the game. But at the end I think he said "I did good huh?" Which makes me think that maybe after he woke up that he believed he had just been playing the game.

Well, i'd think that perhaps he just woke up there, and whilst at first being all "woah, wtf, why am I here?" (which you can see in his face), he gathers his logic and figures "oh wait, I was probably just really into the game : /".

Dude, I'm becomming addicted to this guy, this is awesome.

You posted the picture one twice.
#1 almost certainly fake
#2 almost certainly fake
#3 This is a twist on a simple card trick called Out of This World
#4 fake
#5 probably real
#6 fake
#7 same as #3
Vegetas one is fake too, pay attention and you can see why (maybe have to watch it twice).

Derren brown is a good performer, especially with cards but I hate how he makes people believe in things that are impossible.

Post the reasons! I doubt many of them are fake, because there are a lot of books on this. My roommate reads them and can do things like this to a certain extent.

NLP has no basis in science. There are many other clues you will spot if you watch and carefully think about whats happening in his videos, and some knowledge of magic and mentalism will help a lot. The wording he uses is there to distract you from what is really going on, like him saying one a lot in the russian roulette clip. The idea is to make people think he is influencing the guy by slipping key words in here and there. Or when he does a purely mechanical card trick and pretends hes influencing someone with words to pick a specific card.
The police said there were no live rounds involved in the russian roulette stunt, and derren has more or less admitted it was staged. He said something like "the fact that people even question whether it really happened is great". Thats all he needs.
There is one trick he used to do called reminiscence that would convince anyone he is psychic but is just very very cleverly done. One of the best tricks I've ever seen. I might post it sometimes in the next few days if I can find the dvd it's on.
He has also said (to magicians, not in public) that there is no problem using stooges, its not morally wrong because youre lying to the audiance anyway, and that its purely an aesthetic matter. I have it on tape. You can't really trust anything he does, apart from most of his card stuff (he is a world class card magician, thats for sure).
But then, no matter what the facts are people who want to believe will believe.

You fail at making links.

} should be a )

But if you think about it, what you said makes allot of sense. Not so much as fooling the magic-trickee, but moreso fooling the audience.

Haha wtf, are the forums messed up? Look at the title bar. Or was that just me...

But then, no matter what the facts are people who want to believe will believe.

And that is a key element to his "tricks". The people that fall for his supposed "verbal mind control" (I made that term up:p ) are people that are can be easily influenced.

So yeah I'm one of those people that he wont be able to hypnotize into giving him their wallet:rolleyes: .

Well he still manipulates people. Thats what I like about him. Hes really good at messing with people.

Oh yes, I've been a big fan of Derren Brown for a while now, and by the way, it's Derren, not darren.

Brown got me into magic, I can do some very impressive mentalist routines now, but the more you learn about magic the more you learn that Derren does exactly what he says he does "A combination of magic psychology and suggestion". Pretty much all the trick he does are just a magic trick, that's what mentalism is 10% effect 90% presentation.

There's this one trick I learnt from his book, where you pick up a coin, but actually just slide it of the table onto your lap, very easy to do, but very easy to make it look absolutely convincing you've just picked up the coin. Anyway, with that I've created this really good presentation that can last about 10 minutes and can really stun people, all from that one simple effect. The few people I've shown it to and after much persistence from them, told them how it's done were massively disappointed, they though I must have used an elaborate set up of magnets and false tables and what not. That's pretty much what Derren does, a little trick and a whole lot of presentation, although some of what he does is, I admit, very complex.

But he does not have super mind powers or anything lol.

I noticed him replacing words with bike in the video. I doubt I'd fall for that.

I watched the BMX bike one and noticed how he's trying to suggest a BMX bike by saying certain things in a particular way, before they explained it. Only noticed the "bike creating" and "BeaM eXcitement" parts though.

I'm a huge fan of Derren, read all his books, have all his DVDs, seen all his specials, been to all his live tours and met him after one. Great bloke, with some fantastic skills, including showmanship and misdirection. All of what he does is not done using actors or stooges, he's completely legitimate, but he doesn't call what he does real magic, he's just very clever.

If you bought his book and read it he says that he does not like NLP and believes it's mostly a scam (those nlp courses). He says that only a minority of times that nlp can actually work (probability basically). His tricks are not NLP (even though he might say they are)
Derren brown will decieve his audience making his tricks seem greater than they actually are. But he uses no camera tricks and no stooges. Thats his promise with the series, other things can be misleading.

hectic Glenn is right as well.

and saying that his videos are "FAKE" what do you mean by fake? It was filmed in a studio? He didn't really turn into a black guy? Define "FAKE". Yes I am sorry to disappoint you but he can't read your thoughts and can't cast fireballs with his mind.

His videos are a work of art.

Oh and because Derren HATES with a passion being called 'Darren' I'm renaming this thread in support of him!

Fake by the people really didn't just hand the stuff over to him without thinking, or really just mentally sperated the photos of live/dead. A setup if you will.

Some of his trick are fake, like the revolver one. However, most others are real. I have tried it(performed the tricks by myself) on my classmates and they worked. So never judge on something so arbitrarily.

All of his stuff is fake. That's the point. He's good at faking people out.

What is it with everyone yelling 'fake'? Of course it's bloody fake! That's the whole point! If you want "magic", go back to your sodding David Blaine.

He claims that it is based on psychology and stuff more than it actually is.

I don't think it's totally fake, but it's magic with a psychological tint.

Heh, I can do that trick, it's ABSURDLY simple, a very basic magic trick.

Yeah, I saw the entry on wiki, but it has a little flaw which was apparently eliminated in the trick with the photos. I can't figure out how.
