hi there,

You could use alot more polys to get the detail up abit, cause at the mo its has v.little detail. Aim for around 1,500 polys ;)

Good Start ;)

Unless it's a third person model. Then it might actually be high, depending on the polycount for the world models. Any word on the target polycount for world models? I haven't seen anything... however, the screenshots look real low poly on the gun's world models.

I think for the polly count its looking good :)

looks nic,e although when you render, you should be a showdow casting light source in there, at the least!

Thanks for the input guys.

eddie: I still havnt added the arms and Im leaving some deatails like the cocking grip to the texture

babywax: Actually this is still low for say a UT2004 model

SidewinderX: Thanks for the tip, I was just using a two point light system for those renders, so they arent great looking.

You should take a closer look at the front end :D the low side of the 'barrel' gets way thicker. And the slit for the hammer is open to the bottom

'Unless it's a third person model. Then it might actually be high...'

well i was going to say that there would be no point in modelling the mag, slide and hammer separate from the main mesh, but then i thought about HL2. we havnt seen the capabilities of the Source engine, so maybe they will have animatable 3rd person models, so we will see the mags come out and go back in, then hammers go back and forth, and the slide kickback at the character. oooo, that sounds cool :rolling:

anyways, about the model, the front of the barrel, its waayy too square, as other people say, use more polys to smoothen it out and then add detail. getting the model looking smooth and clean is the first priority for me. it doesnt matter if theres all the switches and buttons on the reciever, if theres a crappy surface anywhere, it completely ruins the feel of the gun...and all that time you spent making that little intricate switch has been wasted :dozey:

Ok, I've updated the mesh, but nothing groundbreaking enough to post a new render.

Ok this is NOT a 3rd person/World mesh, this is a 1st person mesh. And random.hero could you ellaborate on your suggestion. I htink I may know what your getting at, but if you look at some references you'll see that the Desert Eagle becomes fairly squared off at the end of the barrel.
