over the course of this thread, i want us to design the BEST zombie game ever made, simply by combining and streamlining our ideas.
so, what are your ideas on a zombie game? take into account that there are lots of zombie mods allready, like the disapointing zombie panic, and the rather intrigiung brainbread. now imagine one on the HL2 engine...
here are my ideas.
its a team survival game, like zombie panic, except the zombies are very slow and there are NPC zombies. here is the situation: a huge city, with barricades all around it and lots of shops and houses, every single one can be raidied. every player starts in a random house or office, FAR AWAY from the other characters. each character has a mobile phone, but only a certain amount of battery. what does this mean? you can communicate with other players, but unless they are very near to you, you cannnot say too much before your battery depletes.
so you start off when the zombies invade. there are NPC humans randomly roaming the city too, who are obviously oblivious to the zombie thread, and if they are killed they will become a zombie. and i mean this in a dawn of the dead way- if they die, no matter HOW they die, in a few minutes they will rise again, unless you behead them. they can't defend themselves against a zombie- so they either run or die. which is anoying, as this means there will be A LOT of zombies VERY SOON.
tactics? well you'll probally want to hitch up with the other players, so you have to phone them all and arrange a meeting place. lets say the shopping centre. then if you are an organised team you will probally want to stock up on ammo on the way. but be careful not to get greedy... if you venture too far from the meeting place there is a high probability that you will get killed and turn into one of them. and the only thing thats worse than an NPC zombie is an intelligent zombie...
now, here comes the clever part. you have two bars: health and hunger. if either of these deplete fully, you will become a zombie. wich means your freinds are going to shoot you. and you dont want that. also it is impossible to help your frends as a zombie, because you will automatically attack when getting near them. eep. but a food bar means that you cant just camp for the whole game... either you barricade an entrance of a supermarket with trolleys and tables (that the NPCs can hit out of the way) and try to hold out a well supplied but vulnerable shopping mall with plenty of food, or you stay in an easily defendable building...which measn SOMEONE will have to venture out and grab some supplies.
i am very proud of my idea... it is the perfect balancing system. you cant hold out forever or you will die of hunger, which adds an element of desperation. this will also allow players to take advantage of source, and pile food into a shopping trolley. you can just imagine someone trying to push it up some stairs, and all the food falls out... and as he is piling it back in, a moaning sound is heard behind him... before you know it, the survivors are getting VERY hungry and wondering why they cant contact their freind on his phone. either his battery is dead, or HE is dead. will you leave him, or try and see if he is alive?
also, unless you behead zombies- which requires a lot of time and a hacking weapon... they will get up again in 10 minutes. this means that you will have to dispose of the body somewhere... i recoomend chucking them out the window. fun
