Destructable Light Source???

Can we destroy the light source in hl2?? Like in Splinter Cell where we can shoot the light bulbs to make the area darker.
 
Im sure you will be able to... not that it will be useful or inplemented into the gameplay...... i wonder how AI reacts to lighting

Valve said that they want players to think and use the interactive environment to help them to complete objectives. destructable light bulb can be great, darken the environment and turn on the night goggles, then shoot this shit out of combines, i will put my hands on Alyx at the same time.
 
The Kleiner's Lab video made me wonder... If you can "push" the monitor, what happen if you get too close of a NPC? Will Alyx slap you?
 
omg i bet that is a feature, Alyx slapping you..lol. No, actually im really looking forward to someone making a mod and then getting skins for girls to make them nude, like 3 different chicks butt nekked but i bet it wont look very real, just watch. It will still be funny though.

making porn game with souce engine is fully possible, if u have seen the vampire bloodlines video, u would know how nice the chick's tits move while she's walking. I remember Gabe once said that source is able to simulate the dead or alive type of breast movement. If we can see that type of breast movement in hl2...GREATEST GAME EVER.
 
If you actually want to magnify that, I suggest you get to a mental hospital as soon as possible. Ask for the "locked ward" and I'm sure everything will be okay.
 
Gabe said that they decided that was probably over the top... then he went on at some disturbing length about how you'd do it if you wanted to...
 
Is it just me or do the HL2 models/environments look much better than Bloodlines? I think Valve has some much more talented artists.

I was just thinking the exact same thing: Considering the engine they've licensed, Bloodlines really doesnt look THAT pretty... What's that about?
And it never fails to amaze me how threads can turn to be about Alyx's breasts. This was about destructable light sources! Now it's about boob-physics...:hmph: Anyway - I haven't heard anyone mention that there'll be destructable light sources, so I wouldn't hold my breath.

All games on the same engine doesnt have the same quality... JKA look like crap while Elite Force II actually is pretty neat, and thats the older game of them :)

At any rate, destructable lightsources should be rather easy for Source. If I'm not mistaken, even HL had that.
 
splinter cell needed the dynamic lighting, and from what I've heard, h-l2 has dynamic lighting all over the place too, I'd say you can shoot out some lights, and some will have a gause thing over them, either way, I don't see it helping you out too much in h-l2 since it's not focused in that espionage area, it probaly wouldn't affect the AI.

Also, after skimming through this tread, I just know that there is going to be a mod released within a week after h-l2 that will enable a 'jiggle' in certain areas of particular character models.
 
i want it to be like splinter cell fisrt person shoot them up. btw, does splinter cell does better job in making shadows than hl2? I know doom3 does.

dawdler - if I'm correct, we're talking about dynamically destructable light sources like there are in Splinter Cell (God that was fun) and I don't believe for a minute that those were in HL1... Sorry if that sounded aggressive, I did't mean it to.
And that's a fair point about same engine different game, but STILL.

hl2 lighting doesn't seem as dynamic as doom3 lighting. In doom3, shadow can change in depth and in size as the light source moves or changes.

if destructable light source can affect the ai, then game will be even more playable. first time i will play the game like normal shoot them up, the second time, it will be hitman style, murder the combine soldiers one by one in the darkness, and they don't even know who kill them.

I think the landscpae self-shadowing is pre-caculated, so it wouldn't be possible to shoot out all the lights in a HL map.

I just meant simple light sources :)
At any rate, I also think that HL2 will use a big mix dynamic/static lighting, and if needs dynamic in a room, you could probably have dynamic. And thus, turn it on/off.
 
I think you can destroy a light source i HL so i bet it's possible in HL2.
 
You can change the brightness of a light just like in hl it's just that you can't change where a light is and have the shadow move accordingly afaik.
 
I know destructable light source is not a technical limitation. but do they have this feature in hl2? and ai react to the lighting?
