Many mappers for the original Half-Life may have already been introduced to DevCompiler, a program that enables users to compile Half-Life maps. With the release of DevCompiler 1.2 Beta, DC now supports users to compile not only HL maps, but HL2 maps as well.[br]DevCompiler makes compiling maps a simple task by providing users with a friendly graphical interface that includes several options, well, for compiling maps!

So if you are interested in compiling maps, go and check DevCompiler 1.2 Beta out here.

^Warning - The initial download is in spanish, so if you aren't familiar with spanish, learn it!

Unfortunately, I am not interested in Map creating at all, and I haven't been able to test the program for myself. I was basing my words on what the website offered, so you will have to test it for yourself! :)

It won't be any faster (aside from not having to run Hammer in the background). It's just a frontend to the SDK compile tools.
Having said that, not having Hammer running frees up a few hundred Mb of memory.

I always just use a batch file. It's not hard to make, and gets rid of all overhead. I suppose some people will prefer a GUI no matter what.

Is it possible to decompile source maps, since the format i not .bsp...

No, .bsp files cannot be decompiled. A lot of information of the original map is lost during the compilation proces.

Hmm, what's with all the new 15 year old staff members anyway? It makes the forum look dumb when they say something stupid.

IRC buttkissing to get the jobs?

Is it possible to make a decompiler for the .bsp files too?

Yes, they can be decompiled. Use Google, there's a nifty little prog out there for this.

So is it in french or spanish? I prolly wouldn't use this program, but I know spanish if I need to.

Um, no. It uses the same compile tools that Hammer uses to compile with. The only difference is that you don't have to run Hammer at the same time.
