“We always announce all of our games too early,” Pardo said, referring to when Diablo III was unveiled at Blizzard’s Worldwide Invitational in 2008. “We realize that and go, ‘You know what? Next time we’re not going to do that.’ And then we always fail at that. But I’d rather fail at that than fail at making the game great. I think it’s safe to say that, yeah, (Diablo III) is not going to be out next year.”

:O

sucks

I thought this was obvious, we won't see this game until probably 2012 :|

Blizzard won't release two big games on the same year. We already got starcraft 2 next year.

To quote Gabe Newell

"A product is late for a little while, but a product will suck forever."

Once Diablo 3 is actually released, regardless of the year, I wonder how many people will buy & enjoy the game simply because it IS Diablo 3. I do wish that Blizzard had waited a little longer before announcing the game. I'm not a big fan of waiting, & as I try to not follow any given games hype, this is going to be all the harder simply because D3 is such a high profile game, that all fans of the series have been wanting.

It'll be interesting to see how gamers react to the retail product. Will it live up to the legacy or will it garner criticism because of the age of the games engine...

most people by then have never really heard or played D2 me thinks.

I enjoy the build up. Gives me time to browse all the updates posted and familiarize myself with most aspects.

Pity they have been a bit petty with the site in recent weeks :(

This statement makes no sense to me. The same people that have heard of and played D2 will be the same people buying and playing D3. The same people that would buy D3 today will still be alive in and kicking in three years. Hell Blizzard could wait 10 years and the same people would buy D3 as well as the new generation.

My thought exactly.....

People aren't going to magically forget about Diablo .....

I can't believe people actually thought we were going to get it next year! I'm not expecting it, that's for sure.

Starcraft II next year is a possibility, and World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is almost a guarantee (or early 2011, maybe). Those are two decently sized released by Blizzard. To expect Diablo III along with those is a stretch. Surely they have different teams working on these titles, but there has to be some crossover work somewhere along the line, such that simultaneous releases would severely hinder productivity and perhaps quality.

I'm talking about people born post 1996 or so that haven;t played d2

I wasnt expecting it 2010 anyway. I mean they have only finished Act 1 and now they are touching up the last bits of Act 2.

Under-15s are hardly "most people" and it's not like they can't/won't play D3 anyway. Diablo 1+2 are amongst the all-time best selling PC games, a reputation like that just doesn't disappear.

Sweet! More time for me to finally buy and play Diablo 2.

I very much doubt that considering that the games play very differently.

Given the amount of absolutely lackluster door-rushed games there have been in the past 3 years, I'm glad.

If our government decides to some how censor this :l

I really need to open my copy of Warcraft 3 anyway. plus the billion of other games I haven't touched yet! less chat more game thats what i say now

Yes you do. WC3 is one of my favourite RTS games, and I am truly upset we havent heard a peep about any other Warcraft RTS games.

There is hope.

Ohio teen Daniel Petric shot his parents, killing his mother, after they took away his copy of Halo 3 in October 2007. In a sentencing hearing after the teen was found guilty of aggravated murder, Judge James Burge said "I firmly believe that Daniel Petric had no idea at the time he hatched this plot that if he killed his parents they would be dead forever". On 16 June 2009, Petric was sentenced to 23 years to life.

I think a MMO RTS game would be fun, logging in for a couple of huge ass battles with 150 people controlling lets say 10-20 units and huge massive ongoing wars.

I want to say that I'm willing to reserve judgment until they reveal more fully what they have planned.

But skill tree removal sounds like absolute failure.

DLC skill trees i'm calling it right here at this very moment.

I think technology might be a hindering factor in that case. If you look at Blizzard's attempt at a massive battle zone in World of Warcraft, it seemed to go pretty poorly due to lag.

edit: Though I'm not sure how it is going now, since I haven't played since March or so.

Maybe its just me, but the idea behind Warcraft 3 wasnt having massive battles. Battles revolved around combining a few of each unit type to take advantage of each of their strengths, along with the development of your hero (who was pivotal for any given match).

There was one I used to play that's something like that, it's called 'Shattered Galaxy'. While yes, it was instanced into multiple battlefields, it was a 3-way faction war and some battlefields had lots and lots of shit on them.
