Diagonal Displacments

So If i turn my cubes 45 degrees so they are at an angle, and then create a displacment map on them, When i go to edit them it Obviously pulls at the x,y, or z axis but it looks weird because the wall is at an angle is there no way to make it pull at an "off" angle? sorry for asking so many mapping questions
 
This is a good question, actually. It isn't immediately obvious that you can edit a displacement along any vector but X, Y, or Z.

In the Paint Geometry dialogue box, opt for the Face Normal axis. Hold SHIFT and ALT and right-click the face, and the paint vector will become the face's normal.
 
damn. i had no idea. arggh. un- or at least under- documented lil' features like this make all the difference.
