Did anyone notice

Woo just saw the new HL video via steam. Vey nice. And it looks like a 3rd is coming down the pipe right now as well. (yeeha)

Watched the docks video a couple times and finally got a question answered that's been nagging me for a while.

We see large bodies of water in the game, but how and where does it end? Do you hit an invisible barrier and can't swim any farther? Can you swim forever? etc.
Looking at the docks video I can see that the entire docks area is actually a small lake. Look at the horizon. There's land in every direction! Any boats docking there wouldn't be capable of any journey longer than 2 minutes. There's nowhere for them to go!

The land is colored similiar to the water so maybe they're just disguising the end point and you can't swim out that far. Maybe you can't swim at all in HL2 and you just sink like a rock in water?

I dunno. remains to be seen. But at least I know how the water ends now.

I'm almost 100% sure you can swim. They had this in HL1, it would be stupid if you couldn't do it in HL2. As far as swimming out far -- well if it's a small lake then they can just have a high cliff on most sides and you can't go there. But if they want to be creative and simulate an ocean they don't need invisible walls, they can just put 100 Ichthyosaurs some distance from the shore. Simple and fun

Well excuuuuuuuuuuse me. I didn't see any posts about it and only found out about the new video now. I forgot that people were sitting staring at the screens waiting for steam to even twitch and that this would all be "OLD" news 7 hours later.

It might be something like in Battlefield1942 where if your in the water for too long you will start to lose heath(drowning)

Thats good, but how about this: You swimming along out in the ocean, and once you reach the maximum distance a HUUUUGE monster just swallows you and a couple thousand gallons of water whole, then it shows you going down its mouth like a turd in a toilet.

Gabe said they have created a whole new sound system below the water.. and belive me thts not being made for the 10 seconds our sinking to death..
