did anyone play codename panzers?

Forget Codename Panzers, go play Soldiers: Heroes of WW2.

Try the demo http://www.codemasters.com/soldiers/

Destructible environments, realistic physics, the option to directly control units (blasting enemies with a tank ROCKS), and more tactical depth than most RTS out there.

It's not just a matter of clashing two sides together and the one with the better units wins. You can have you units crouch behind sandbags, hide being walls as the enemy tanks BLOWS everything away and you have to run and get behind more cover. Units have inventory, you can loot ammo or grenades or rocket launchers. Disabled an enemy vehicle? Either repair it or steal its fuel to get your own vehicles running again.

Not to forget, the game has COOP. You can play through all the campaign with up to 3 other friends. This spells FUN. And the devs were dedicated enough to released a patch post-game that added option mp gamemodes --> (team) deathmatch, king of the hill, escort, battle zones, assault.

This is a hardcore game, it's not mainstream, and as such has a smaller following. But I'd take excellent gameplay over popularity any day.

At the very least, you must try out the demo. And you will probably die. And try again. And die. And it's tons of fun. The game IS hard, but if that'll make you give up in frustration, a shame :(

i liked it. required a bit of planning, if you just rushed in, you normally lost :)

i class it as one of the games, which are great, but go unnoticed.

I've played both Panzers and Soldiers. Panzers is arcade-ish, tho grander of scale. Soldiers is very hard tactics-wise, but when you get the hang of it, it rocks.

panzers still has some decent tactics and the little things llyranor was explaining.

like if you have a group of flamethrowers, go and attack a tank, it'll overheat and the men inside will jump out [and than you shoot them, yay] and you have ot wait for it to cool down before you can get in.
