Did Kerry Cheat?

yeah.. its not like his opponent never cheated at anything anyway

Well, one candidate having access to notes and the other not could make a big difference.

Notes on what? Do they know the questions? Im sure hes memorized most of his facts and information

Looks like a pen to me. He even takes the cap off of it in the video.

If it's not a pen, it's much to small to be any sort of useful notes. And why is the only source for this some dinky-ass conservative blog? If this had any credibility it would be a much bigger story. The White House would have had a hissy fit.

Perhaps it was a magical pen...

Or perhaps Republicans are so angry that Kerry destroyed Bush that they'll resort to anything to tarnish his win.

Oh.....actually.....more likely a magical pen. Yep, magical pen.

I saw the video this morning.

Whatever the case may be, Kerry et. al should come clean, or explain the situation. It is important.

He appears to unfold something right afterwards. Note also that Bush seems to unfold something. Given the bad angle (on Bush; he's already arrived at the podium by the time it cuts to the rear angle) it's entirely possible he was fishing for something too. It's hard to tell where Bush gets whatever it is he's unfolding -- perhaps something up his sleeve :D.

Maybe they were each allowed a handkerchief?

5c. No props, notes, charts, diagrams, or other writings or other tangible things [read: physical objects] may be brought into the debate by any candidate.

(My note in brackets).

 I think it's nothing, I mean that wasn't even trying to be slick.

Pens were pre placed on the podiums

The video is what matters here- if Michael Moore had videotape of Bush raping someone it wouldn't make it any less credible.

Also the likes of LGF, etc, are what brought about the poiting out of the Rather document forgeries.

:dozey: Right when he makes that turn, it's pretty damn obvious what he's doing, I mean the crowd does know he had his hand in his coat. When he finally is completing his turn they should know he had something in his hand.

On a side note, right-wingers (or whatever they want to be called) are a little slow out of the gates.

Fanatic left-wing sites would have high-quality versions of this ten days ago, if Bush did something dodgy.

Yes, ten days. No? Not even a giggle? Bah.

-_-' Who cares....
Of course, if the right-wing attack party wants to bag on this, I'll show footage that'll bring Bush to question.
Admit it, Kerry did better than Bush regardless.

LOL i dont think Kerry is stupid enough to cheat when basiclly the whole country\some of the world is watching..

1) Kerry's not stupid. He wouldn't do something like that.
2) It would have been noticed, thus it was nothing bad.
3) The fact that no reference to it is on any major news site and you had to dig up a site with ads like "Annoy a Liberal!" should tell us something.
4) Like someone else said, handkerchief anyone? There are many possibilities.

Right, and we all know that the Lewinsky thing wasn't a minor incident blown out of proportion by the republican party either.

Matt Drudge is also a well-known conservative attack dog. He calls himself a citizen "journalist" although he lacks even the basic veneer of impartiality that real journalists at least try to project. The Drudge Report is more shameless than Fox News.

I recall that Kerry was using a different pen than Bush was. Bush was using a slim, black pen, while Kerry was using a fatter, silver pen. I'm guessing that's what he pulled out of his pocket...

Like omg, he brought a pen! now he has the advantage! the silver pen gives +10 to charm whiles the pen that they were given only gives +9. And the pen also has a special feature that gives you more credibility!

I mean common, it was jus a freeking pen!

and if you're gonna bitch about this hurting Bush in the debate, I'd get more worked up about the networks showing reaction shots.... those hurt bush more than kerry's pen did.

OMG why the hell do people use the word Blog and blogger? It was on that nypost website thingy, and its so stupid. Blog and blogger, or blogging has to be the dumbest word ever. I wish I could beat people up who used that!

Why do you use "OMG"?

Yes, OMG is definately more annoying than shortening web-log down to one syllable.

Lets give Kerry an F for cheating, and send him to the principal! Where is hands checked? Maybe he wrote all the answers in the palm of his hands.

Yeah this needs to be answered. Its not all that big of a deal, but cheating is cheating.

PS I love the dailyrecycler great clips of the days events.

I thought their official story was that it was a pen.
If you look at the high quality images you can clearly see sharp corners aka paper of some sort.

Even in the "high quality" video I couldn't "clearly" see anything... I couldn't tell what the object was... or even what part of the blob was his hand and what part was the object he reached for. The videos are blurry, compressed, and interlaced. That's a bad combination for noticing little details.

I'm sure some other networks have much better footage of what happened. For example, I remember that C-SPAN had a great viewing angle (though, they might not have used that angle at that moment while they were live) on Kerry as he first stepped up to the podium. If we had a clip from their video this would be much easier.

... but until more evidence pops up we have to work with what we've got. Alas, even with the best de-interlaced images I could manage to extract from the highest quality video I could find... I still can't tell if he's actually holding anything. I'm sure he probably reached for something... but from these two shots it looks like we might just be seeing his hand (knuckles on the left, thumb on the upper right):

seinfeldrules, The Post looked at the actual raw footage. Best quality you'll find. Far better than the CSPAN stream, or w/e the hell those pixelated/blurred image were taken from(?).
