I know it did in mine, it used to be 1280x1024 max everything, 4xaa 8x af, and I'd have 80 or so fps, and it would drop to the 30s in some parts, well I did a fresh reinstall with SP2 integrated in the install CD, and now I very rarely get slowdowns ever, with the same settings.

Nope. My FPS is the same and I have my computer fully up to date. When I say the same I mean 30, and in firefights about 20 :(. My system specs are pretty darned good too.

lol, mine use to be in the 60s now in the 30s :(

maybe its because Im usign full settings? lol

Alientank, it has nothing to do with Service Pack 2, as you said, you did a reformat, that did the trick...

Ah alright :)

Yep, it's simply the reformat. One of the reasons I avoid Windows is that the productivity of a Windows system falls as time passes, and also that various unneeded files get stored, accumulating to gigabytes.

I don't have much choice to play HL2 though, now do I?

No you don't unfortunately. But you can join the resistance and only use Windows for games, using a decent operating system for work :).
