Did Steam actually made it easier for warez?

A friend of mine plays an illegal version of CSS through steam without having bought it. It works perfectly online, without even the simplest problem most other games give when you want to play online with an illegal version. What's up with that?

Is it actually easier to crack steam than to crack a normal game?

No actually it is. All of the data for games gets put right on your computer for you so all they do is write a cracked executable and then decrypt the data. I have seen the emporio forums and VALVe is not stopping anything.
