Did Valve just release another buggy patch? They must have...

I'm not talking about the one right after Thanksgiving, I already got that. Just today when I opened CS: Source, it downloaded another update.

Maps in CS now do not even display properly (missing buildings, textures, and other various objects), and my framerate is no more than 5-10fps. In other words, it is unplayable.

Whenever I start HL2, I get some DX8 error and then the notorious "memory could not be read" error.I tried forcing DX8 in the command line, the game starts - but the framerate is as bad as CS: Source! Unplayable.

The first patch they released removed the stuttering to the point where it was playable, and I was getting an excellent framerate. Now they release this, and the game isn't playable at all. I'm getting very impatient with this whole ordeal, and I want my $60 back. I could spend it on other things instead of this buggy, rushed game that is Half-Life 2. For being delayed so long, there should be NO problems whatsoever with the game. Absolutely none. They had more than enough time to test this game, and they clearly did not. If I pay $60 for some software, especially a game, there had better not be any problems with it. If anyone knows a way around this please let me know.

:flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame:

Funny. I launched CS myself about a couple of hours ago & noticed that 'Steam updating' flashed up. I wondered what all that was about.

Erm, how exactly can you call it delayed for ages AND rushed...? :borg:

Surely if it was rushed then they wouldnt delay it :O

Buggy game, buggy patch.... valve are finishing how they started :p

They delayed it because they were pissed about the piracy. The problems numerous people have had suggest they did next to nothing during the long delay, perhaps realized their were some potential problems at the last minute, and this is the result.

I get 5 mins play! then freeze + sound loop, i have the latest via drivers, nvidia drivers, etc.... any other game on this machine will work.... but hl2.....

Why pay for testers? when the customers of the game can test it for free!.....

Much as I hate to let facts get in the way of a good whine, but the game was delayed due to it not being finished. Valve never once claimed that it was delayed due to the theft.
During the long delay, they were making the damn game. Games have bugs, bugs get fixed.
It's not in Valve's interests to release something with bugs. So obviously, they weren't aware of the issues until they showed up in the wild, and now they're trying to fix them. This is how game development works. It's not something that is unique to Valve by any means.

How quickly people forget - Valve continued supporting and updating Half-Life for over 4 years, fixing bugs and adding new functionality during that time. Hardly the actions of a company that is content to ship buggy product. The current issues will be fixed.

This is a support forum, not a "whine about Valve" forum. Use it correctly, or not at all.

To answer the question posed in the original post, there was no update today.

banned shakycam! :E

I donno about you guys but this is the worst forum I have ever been in, the mods just ban people for saying things that are true about the game.....if you don't want that then make the game work right.......it has been patch and it did nothing so that kinda shows how this is a problem. I guess I'll get banned for voicing my opinion...which I thought everyone had a right to do but anyway here's what I think and I hope others will not let people get away with how this forum is being run and how game devs are slaking in their work as of late with many games.

Are all of you listening to this! I can not believe some of the stuff I am reading and find some of the "responses" incredible. Whether "buggy" software is common or not, this game has barely functioned for me from the get go and has done nothing but get worse the more they play with it. I'm sorry but this can only be defined as crap. $60 crap!! I can't wait till they change the minimum and recommended system specs!

It's nothing to do with the system specs.

I have been here for over a year and a half now and I can tell you that everyone I know of who was banned either deserved it or was mistakenly banned and the situation was quickly rectified.

If you voice your opinion like an asswipe then you will get banned.

Theese forums are a privilege not a right.

The kind that sneak out of your PC and kill you when you least expect it, I had a sneaky patch try to kill me when I was on the bog. Let's just say that patch is on it's way to the sea.

You flushed your copy of Half Life 2 down the bog?? :rolling: Nice 1

Valve released one big giant patch.... we are geting the game bit by bit! :D

I don't think its Valve at all, I think it lies somewhere with Vivendi Universal. Ever since they showed up they have taken some of the best game franchises and turned them to crap. Homeworld2, Ground Control 2, War of the Ring just to name a few. I own a lot of games and until I saw VU show up I had no gaming problems. It just seems any game with the VU logo on it, is riddled with problems or just plain sucks. Anyway, that's my two cents take it or leave it. Peace... :afro:
