If you are not going to be printing/developing any pictures above a 4x6, 2MP will be enough. You need a good lens though. If you get a camera with a poor lens it will show.
Nikon has a good 2MP 2200 camera out for 150$ with 3x optical zoom.
If you only need a point and shoot, Kodak has a 2MP 6200 (I think that's the model) for 100$.

Well a 2million pixel camera doesn't have to be bad lad - like Asus says you'll get a good 6x4 print - even a good 7x5 - its when you blow up beyond that that you'll notace a drop in quality (A4 pics will look slightly blurred - but they arn't too bad). An good buy - if you can find it - would be the Fuji Finepix 2800 - an excalent 2million pixel job that runs on four AAs and has an above average x6 optical zoom (disregard the digital). Only problem with it is that the media it runs on (Smart Media) is being used less and less - but you can pick up the cards for dirt cheap too. eBays prob your best bet for this fella - he's been discontinued for about a year - but you could well find it under $100US (I've seen it under £100 anyway) and you'll be amazed at the quality of the pictures - very good Fuji lens.
