Dino-Instinct Update

For me personally, the fascination with dinosaurs comes from my imaginative childhood where I'd play with plastic dinosaurs and make them do battle. The Development Team at Dino-Instinct must have had a similar up-bringing, because they are putting together what appears to be the first Source Dinosaur modification.[br]
Gameplay follows a simple formula that is kind of like the buy system for Counterstrike:
Two Teams of dinosaurs going at each other to reach a common objective according to the type of gameplay. There will be five dinosaurs per team, being a carnivore vs. herbivore type situation. You will start out as a base dino for your team and the more experience you earn (from kills and objectives) the better dino you can pick apon death. Once you die though your dino will be reset back to the base dino and you will have to pick again using the experience that has not been spent. After picking your dino, you may also purchase power ups to boost certain abilities of that dino at anytime.

The Development Team say they have gotten the Carnivore Team ready to go, with the Herbivore's being the next in line to recieve special attention. The screenshot below is also on one of the maps, DI_Tropics. [br]
Enjoy![br]

The first what i am thinking off while i was reading this text was: how can you kill other Player / Dinosaur ?

Interesting idea. I wonder how this one is going to pan out? Good luck to the team. Brave of them to attempt something a bit different.

the herbivores have no chance though...

carnivores ftw

this could be very cool :D

-dodo

edit: they have a chick on there modding team :p

Will this be third person, first or both? I looked at their F.A.Q and it didn't say.

Melee usually looks stupid without animations which aren't very good in first and it looks like there won't be any projectiles here.

Sounds incredibly cool, and they've already got skinned and modelled dinosaurs, as well as an atmospheric map. Dinos FTW!

I never knew about this mod, but now i know about it, i'm really excited, dinosaurs rule! (or ruled) But i had a sniff around on their site, and they said 'third person mode is completed' so i guess we see all the dino's from 3rd person, which i thinks a much better idea than 1st person which would be bad, basically some teeth sticking out!

I lost interest of dinosaurs back in 1993 when I discovered the coolness of WWI biplanes. Everyone probably had an interest with dinosaurs back in the day, so this mod should rekindle some inner youth :p

this is so cool, im so glad its not a jp clone. and herbavours are very well armed, stegasaurous, triceritops, brontosaurous, could all do some major ass damage, but they would need some wicket animations. i just hope it doesn't turn hack and slash, like quick tail whips, I hope its kinda more complex animations that you do your move, and watch the attacks, turn based

I kind of doubt they where all covered in feathers, if so the very small kind of feathers witch in all essence can be called scales.

I'm not putting my trust in a few archeologists that's found fossile with feathers.
Some parts of the dinosaurs might have been covered for the sake of airodynamics.

But the idea of them being mulitcoloured like rainbows is rediculous imo.
I mean it goes against all logic that a predator that relies on stealth and camoflauge to be coloured like the rainbow. Nope green and brown is the way to go for a predator. With the ability to perhaps pump blood into certain patterns to show off during mating season but apart from that I doubt vivid colours where a fact.

OvA: Yeah, I'm sure that just as I did, you imagined something a little different at first. :)

Edit: Cruor: I suppose colours varied as much as do the colours of birds do today. Some may have had bright patches, but as you say most probably had quite dull colours. The article doesn't actually suggest they were rainbow coloured, only that the possibilty exists. Also, being covered in feathers doesnt mean they were covered in "big" feathers but most likely also tiny ones (as are modern birds).

I think they mean more like downy kind of feathers.

I actually just watched a programme on BBC1 that explained that a veloceraptor probably looked like a turkey with long legs. It really didn't look very... menacing. But then again, the only actual solid info we have on dinosaurs is that they existed and they had bones; everything else is speculation. For all we know, they could have been psychic and floated around, shooting lazer beams out of their eyes and screaming battlecries of "WWWRRRYY".

We shall soon see when my dinosaur park opens. In 48 hours, you'll be owing me an apology.

Wait... Wh... what the fudge? lol!

SCISSORS!!! 61!!!!

Nice to see something truely original coming out of the community! I fear for it's wide spread appeal though. Perhaps they'd get more players if the Dinos planted bombs, rescued hostages and complained about the lamers who use the Velocoraptor?

And I'm sure Halflife2.net has never had google ads like these before :)

I think they recently found a "fossil" of a T-rex I think that had soft tissue, bonemarrow (spelling?) inside some of the legs.

Hmm perhaps they might be able to extract a full sequence of DNA allthough unlikely, but then again it could be the beginning of a real Jurassic Park.

I'm a future biotechnician so this is indeed an exiting prospect of being able to map the genome of a T-rex. :E

RoflMAO themastah that was awesome.

I'm a pro-dinosaur person myself. This mod looks cool. Keep making please!

that system sounds exactly like Natural Selection, not CS, no? And, nice quote from Jurassic Park Sulkdodds. (I must have watched that movie thousands of times when I was younger.)

Even if they had feathers I do not want to play as a gaint chicken therefore we stick to the ferocious looking style.

"Tyrannosaurs might have resembled giant chicks.” - lmao

I was actually afraid of turkeys when I was young, after being attacked by one. Those things are huge, ugly and vicious! Then again I don't blame them for vicousness since they are going to be eaten.

And for the dinosaurs with feathers: that theory is ancient and has never been proven.

well that would explain those uh flying dinos...

They're not flying dinosaurs! They're an entirely seperate type of animal, pterosaurs!

:p

DoctorWeeTodd: Read the article and you will realise this is fairly new stuff they have found...
