Disable the 'valve' video?

Anyone know how to disable the valve video that starts with the game? Quite an annoyance to esc past it.

Swap it for something shorter and more fun but with the same filename?

There'll undoubtedly be a console command to disable it, but I can't recall one right this instant...

Under launch options for Half-Life 2, add:

-novideo

Also, if you want to disable that annoying map menu that hogs the load time, you can open up the Valve.rc file in Half-Life 2/cfg and put a // infront of "startupmenu" at the bottom.
