Disappointment

I've never posted here. I didn't even search the forum. I just searched for and registered with the first Half-Life 2 forum I found. I mean bizness. I need to vent.

I want to know who else has had an experience like I just had.

I was doing the airboat missions. I had just gotten the gun attached to my boat from the alien (?Vortigaunt?). Feeling confident, I went down the tunnel and crippled the helicopter that had been messing with me. Yeah. Bitch.

Then, outside the tunnel, I shot up a few things to get a feel for the gun. After that I continued on down the water. I had to make a jump where the water turned from normal clear water to that radioactive swill.

Shortly after that ther is an ambush point. It looks sort of like a lock/dam. You take the airboat into this area and at some point you get attacked by combine soldiers on both sides. You have to kill a handful of combine dudes that are standing on opposite sides of this lock/dam area. No problem. Pretty standard occurrence for the game.

My disappointment is due to my efforts after the ambush. During the ambush, several combine soldiers came from a seemingly unreachable room. I decided to try and reach that room.

It wasn't easy, but, after stacking some things and doing some fancy jumping, it turned out to be possible. I made it to the mysterious room. Inside there was ..... NOTHING. Not a frickin thing. No ammo. No new gun. No health.

Well, that is why I am disappointed. I know other people must have done the same thing. I would like other people to post their disappointment stories here.

the only dissapointing thing was the fact that no one was there to feed me while i played it .

Guys,

You're not feeling my pain. I'm not being an ingrate. I loved this game. This is my second time through.

I just want to here stories about similar disappointments. Either in the same section that I describe or elsewhere.

C'mon, wasn't there a place where you thought you could stack up a bunch of barrels. You thought that you could climb over a fence and get to a cool weapon or something. Instead there wasn't crap.

Not really to be honest, i'm disappointed with ruining things for myself first time through by doing things wrong, like not noticing that barrel next to those wooden supports or not realising you could pull those panels off the walls in the dark energy chapter. Then first time through would have had everything. But to discover new things all the time is nice.
e.g. when you come out the ravenholm tunnel above the opening there is a grenade and .357 ammo hidden on a high ledge above you. Just the fact they are nearly impossible to notice made it interesting.

You've just made your way to room you wansnt supposed to be there, by using the physics system , you built your way up there , now tell me is there any game use the physiscs like HL2 ?

I was disappointed that the ragdolls went through the physics objects.

Alot of you folks need to shut up. He's not saying HL2 sucks, he's saying he is DISAPPOINTED that he worked hard at something for no reward.

I did that alot whilst playing HL2, constructing something to see if there was something interesting up wherever and I would get disappointed.

Well, I don't know about people needing shup up, but you understand what I'm saying. It sounds like you play the game more like I do, where other people here go through the game faster and don't investigate much. I probably should have given this topic a different title. I think most people think this is one of the numerous game-basher threads. Oh well.

I just remembered another place where I worked my ass off moving crates and barrels for no reward.

At the lighthouse area, there is a house next to the shed where you park the buggy. In the back of the house, there is a window on the second floor. There might have been a combine soldier up there that drew my attention to it. I can't remember.

Anywho, you can't get to the window from the inside of the house by using stairs or a ladder or anything. But I had to see what was in that window. So, of course, I decided to stack crates. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment. I don't work nearly that hard for things in the real world.

It took a long time. I had to drag crates and barrels and tables and whatever the gravity gun would carry and fit through doors from all over the area to this mysterious window. It wasn't just getting the crate pyramid high enough, it also had to be stable enough for me to make 3-4 jumps up to the window.

Well eventually, after more fancing jumping, and knocking the stack over several times I made it to the window. I was so excited. I remember being all sneaky and twitchy and having my gun ready in case a head crab was lurking in there. I crouched to climb through and ... I couldn't fit. Too many donuts for Gordon Freeman I guess. That sucked.

I did the exact same thing you are talking about and I too was a bit disappointed. I was expecting at least to have some ammo or health in there or something but nope, there was nothing
