Disney has bought Marvel Entertainment for the hefty price of $4 billion. Under the deal, Disney gains control of more than 5,000 Marvel characters, and Marvel gains their massive marketing infrastructure.

"This transaction combines Marvel's strong global brand and world-renowned library of characters including Iron Man, Spider-Man, X-Men, Captain America, Fantastic Four and Thor with Disney's creative skills, unparalleled global portfolio of entertainment properties, and a business structure that maximizes the value of creative properties across multiple platforms and territories," said Robert A. Iger, President aof The Walt Disney Company. "Ike Perlmutter and his team have done an impressive job of nurturing these properties and have created significant value. We are pleased to bring this talent and these great assets to Disney."

Great. Now we're going to have teenage superhero teeny-bopper sitcoms with bad jokes and horrible acting. Good friggin job Disney. Now we're going to have a pubescent Spiderman trying to find a date for the school dance while "balancing his superhero duties" and other random shit we don't care durr hurr.

...holy shit.

a pubescent Spiderman trying to find a date for the school dance while "balancing his superhero duties" and other random shit we don't care durr hurr.

I think we had that one already. Almost certain.

The next Kingdom Hearts could be even more weirdshit than usual.

Well, Disney is going to want to capitalize on their acquisition, so I expect this to mean more movies and media than before. We'll probably see new movies about characters that haven't had their own movies yet.

I'm sure they won't be changing the staff that worked at Marvel. I don't think Disney means to tamper with the Marvel Universe, basically, though completely separate spin-offs are certainly not out of the question.

WOW! Really unexpected **** there and that's a ****ton of money  Although could disney **** up marvel?

Some of this could come with benefits. I was already getting excited for the Epic Mickey project:

Will this have any effect on the Avenger films or are those contracts rock-solid?

I was iffy about this at first, but given how long it's been since Marvel has actually produced anything good, I don't really know what we have to lose.

I thought Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk were both pretty good and I'm looking forward to Avengers.

Disney's just buying up an asset for more market share. Marvel still owns copyrights on their characters. This is business, not creative control.

That being said I sure would like to see Papernik being published under the Marvel license.

**** Disney.

Yeah Darkside, **** Disney.

But seriously now, isn't this better than if Marvel had bought Disney?
Walt is cackling in his Icy tomb laughing it up ;)
This is a terrifying Bioshockish image.

And this would be completely ****ing amazing.

Imagine the song mashups for a start!

It can only be a good thing, disney are a pretty good company to be part, chances are marvel will be left to their own devices, why would disney want to change a winning formula? But just help support them with marketing, cash, publishing and all that lark.

I had an email in my inbox from bob iger today talking about it. Just a company wide one really.

This.

I am a huge spider-man fan so maybe I will get that good spider-man movie I always wanted.

In other news, R.E.M has anounced it's new song relative to "It's The End of The world As We Know It"

"It's The End of Marvel As We Know It" Well that was just stupid.... so yah forget what I just said because now I'm thinking of why I just posted this while I'm saying how stupid what I said was..... and now I'm mad because I just confused my self with trickery.... :/

It's been a few years since they acquired Pixar, and they still haven't managed to ruin them. I can't see the problem with the acquisition, but neither can I see what motivated the buyout either.
